I think it influences what they could do and definitely encourages violence, but I don't think they MAKE them violent. The children obviously still have free will.

No not really. I think its just convenient for parents and others to blame video games bc they sure as hell dont want to be responsible. I agree with the comment someone made earlier about kids being violent way before games were even around. I blame parents, marketing, and video game stores . Violent games should not be advertised toward younger children and video games should card kids under certain ages for MATURE rated games. Mainly parents shouldnt buy young children violent video games or any video game without doing any research on it. They should also take the time to sit with their children to explain the difference between the video game universe and actual reality. I think most parents just buy their children whatever they want without taking the time to research the product or anything. Sorry this is long and I could keep going and going but I will end it here. Thanks this was a great question to put out there!

I have been playing video games since I was about 7, and I never had any violent tendencies. I feel that there are other factors that contribute to a child being violent and that video games tend to take the fall when people need an explaination for events.

Video games don't make kids violent. This world makes kids violent. Any kid who has watched the news knows there are more screwed up things going on in the world then in video games. If kids are raised properly they would understand that a video game is just fantasy and not reality. It really mostly falls on the parents.

i think that parents who blame violent video games on their children being violent are just stupid. honnestly, thousands of factors come into play in a child's development. usually, trauma (like a parent beating the child or the child seeing a loved one hurting someone or being hurt) triggers violence in a child. violent video games only make the kids joke around about hurting others. they know video games are pretend, or at least the smart ones do. i have honnestly met some very...low children (my mom teaches kids who need "extra help", and what they believe can really shock you. it's like a toddler sometimes. one kid actually believes that the world used to be black and white because all the pictures are in black and white.

This question gets on my nerves. Of course they don't make kids violent. I'm not saying that a four year old should play "Bloody Revenge etc" but it is the parent's decision and how they raise their kids (for the most part) affect the violence level of their child. Video games are an outlet for recreation, not violence encouragement.

No...kids could be violent LONG before the appearance of video games.

yes...lil kids should not play violent video games...they are still very innocent and they create new ideals in their heads by seeing weird creatures killing each other and stuff like that...Thats why most violent games have an age limit..usually its over 16 or so...just try to avoid allowing your child playing video games..

No
Thats a generational tiff

I grew up playing army, cops/robbers, Indians
I and my brothers turned out "normal"

Everyone was in a uproar about the Incredible Hulk on Tv and the A team.. years ago
MY Son is still kind, considerate, not green or driving around in a funky van wearing weird leather gloves

Every generation gets their panties bunched up about it
