It appears they have 2 options. One is to give the job to Craig Hansen, however Hanson was shaky as best as a rookie last year. The other option is a trade with Pittsburgh for Mike Gonzalez. Gonzalez is a very good reliever, but many teams are interested. The Pirates already turned down Jon Lieber from the Phillies, and the Braves are dangling Adam LaRoche. The Yankees seem willing to part with Melky Cabrera and Scott Procter to get his as well. It could cost the Red Sox Eric Hinske, Coco Crisp, and a prospect.

I think the Red Sox in all actuality already have their guy in Craig Hansen. He was a proven closer in college at St. John's and definitely has the physical make-up and "stuff" to do it. I think that is what they are hopeful of. If the mental side of the job becomes to challenging they will most likely trade a prospect or 2 for a proven closer.

The Sox are stil looking for a closer. Don't expect Craig Hansen to be their closer. He didn't have what it takes last season to be a closer and they are looking to get someone before the start of spring training. Look for the Sox to go after Mike Hernandez from Pittsburgh. He converted 24 saves last season as a rookie. They do not feel like they have a closer on their current roster. Expect them to get someone before spring training....

either way, theyre done this season. they cant get a very good closer w/ all the $$ they spent on matsuzaka unless they get rid of someone like manny. if they get rid of manny, ortiz is going to go down hill because the pitchers only have to pitch to one good hitter now, that threat will be gone. or they could hold on to papelbon(haha)!

Papelbon won't be as good as they think he'll be as a starter, and they'll ship him back to the closer's role after the all-star break. They just need to hope he doesn't hurt his arm before that happens.
