If your toilet is staind due to hard water (rust, calcium, lime, etc), a product called Lime Away works extreamly well (you can get it at walmart). You may have to load the toilet bowl up with it and let it soak overnight a couple of times to get rid of everything. Another thing I have used (if you are not too grossed out and the stains REALLY bother you) is a pumice stone to scrub the stains (it won't scratch the porcelain). You can get them at walmart in the foot care aisle. I turned off the water to the toilet and then flushed it to get rid of most of the water in the bowl to make it easier to scrub (Don't forget to turn the water back on when you are done). If you have a newer toilet that is a water saver, you may not have to do that step. You may have to use some elbow grease when scrubbing with the stone. Both of these methods worked for me as I grew up in a home with well water, and my current watersource tends to leave a lot of calcium deposits. After you initially get the tough stains with the pumice stone, lime away on its own (used regularly) should be enough to keep the stains under control. I also keep a clorox bleach tab in the tank: it helps keep the toilet clean and doesn't turn the water that weird blue color.

You need to start Al Rozz treatment plan.
1. First thing you do is get a liter of Coke and pour it down the toilet and let it set there for a few hours.

2. Then get a gallon of white vinegar and pour two cups of that in the tank every day after you flush it.

3. Finally you can pour bleach and the rest of the core will disinegrate to nothing.

Al Rozz ...get your toilet throne looking nice:)

I had the same problem, I poured a bunch of CLR or Lime Away in and let it sit awhile. Then get on some gloves and use a light steel wool pad to scrub the hard water spots. It worked on mine, you just want to test a spot to make sure it's not going to scratch the ceramic and make it look even worse.
Good luck!

One way is to drop two vitamin C tablets into the bowl. Wait for an hour or so, then flush. The bowl will gleam.

Another way is to suck up your pride, get a toilet brush, some heavy duty cleaner, and scrub that bowl down.
What's worse, getting temporarily filthy or people seeing you have a nasty toilet?

My wife shuts off the water, drains the bowl and sits in front of the thing for a half hour with something she calls a pumas stone and grinds away all the water stains. Damn good woman.

Use a product called Barkeeper's Friend. It is like Comet or Ajax but works much better! Shut water off for the bowl, sprinkle Barkeeper's in, wait five minutes, brush and flush(turn water back on!).

use good ol' Clorox, and start from the bowl, which, after you flush, will pass the chlorine through your toilet, while doing so, commence to scrub with a white towel, not black, not brown, no colors, just a white towel, an industrial-strength towel. after that, run about three square blocks around your residence. Doint this will give it enough time for the spots to dissappear before scrubbing it again with some toilet tissue. after this you should be OK

ZEP Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner. You have to be careful when using this. I have extremely hard water also and I found this to do the job. Hardware stores carry this.

2 biological washing powder and warm water to form a thick paste
