Only the gift giving part of it is a crock. I hate when people get caught up in the material side: such as spending a fortune & still thinking they need more, or stores decorating as early as the summer- trying to skip over the other holidays. It would be great if people would just get the real meaning of Christmas!

CHRISTmas is only a crock if you make it that way. Don't get caught up in all the rushing around and materialism. Put some Christ into your Christmas and perhaps you'll feel better about the celebration.

I am an atheist and still enjoy Christmas. Mind you, the whole holiday thing was stolen from the pagans' Winter Solstice (Yule) celebrations.

In the Bible, the shepherds were bringing the sheep down from the mountains. This suggests a time no later than August.

Merry Christmas,

on a side note, X is not to x the christ out and it is not used to demean us Christians,

"this usage is nearly as old as Christianity itself, and its origins lie in the fact that the first letter in the Greek word for 'Christ' is 'chi,' and the Greek letter 'chi' is represented by a symbol similar to the letter 'X' in the modern Roman alphabet. Hence 'Xmas' is indeed perfectly legitimate abbreviation for the word 'Christmas' (just as 'Xian' is also sometimes used as an abbreviation of the word 'Christian'). "

Depends on how you celebrate it. I am not about materialism but about the reason for the season, so no, CHRISTmas is not a crock to me.
