OK - I have an 8 month old and I am still breastfeeding. He is losing interest and eating a lot more, so my milk had gone way down. I don't leak anymore and never feel "full". I havent' worn breastpads in ages. I am getting my period reguarly. I noticed that my milk supply suddenly shot up - to the point of leaking and hurting so full. Coul dthe sudden increase in milk be a sign of pregnancy? Did that happen to you?

I've nursed an older child through pregnancy twice.
No. Pregnancy usually causes a DECREASE in supply, not an increase.
Progesterone levels gradually rise during pregnancy. One theory for the cause of decreased milk supply during pregnancy (Flower 2003) is that the progesterone makes the alveoli permeable, or "leaky," so they can't store milk well. At birth (the delivery of the placenta) progesterone levels drop dramatically, allowing prolactin to take over. Prolactin makes the alveoli impermeable, thus setting the stage for the return of copious milk production.

Like momma2 said, milk supply usually decreases when pregnant. The sudden increase could be causes by your son not nursing as much as he was because the growth spurt is over, and it just seems like more since he's leaving it behind, so to speak.

Your milk supply wouldn't increase that fast from a brand new pregnancy. I only know this b/c one of my friends got pregnant 2 months after giving birth...

Yes, you can get pregnant. I don't know if that is the reason--there could be others...the type of food you are eating, water intake (dont stop drinking water please), or your 8 month old may be taking in more than you think. If you are hurting and leaking--get yourself a pump if you don't have one, to ease the pain until you get seen by your OBGYN. Give them a call, they may give you to a lactate speciallist, too.

I got pregnant while breastfeeding that didn't happen to me. The only thing I noticed was it became painful to breastfeed because my nipples got too sensitive.

Some women ovulate while breastfeeding. It's 100% possible.
Go to your OB and get checked.
