I was called out in a game as a cheat.... so I just wanna be sure.

Screw that guy--he can't play cards. You are always allowed to check and you are always allowed to raise. If this guy thinks you need to play like him, tell him to take up blackjack--where the dealer always plays 'right'. He's just mad because he raised you with nothing. What's he going to do next, put ten grand on the table in the middle of a hand?

Hell no its not cheating! (unless its a home game and the rules are set before hand) It is a hell of a strategy in gambling to (a) juice a pot, (b) catch somebody bluffing or set a bluff of your own, & (c) setting up future betting strategies for a session you plan to be playing for a while.
