The Seibu Lions will get the 51.1 million dollars the Red Sox bid for the right to negotiate the Dice-K. The Lions are the team he played for in Japan.

the 51 million dollars goes to the seibu lions which was daizuke matsuzaka's japanese team as it was a bid to have the negotiating rights to daizuke matsuzaka and his contract was for 6 years and 52 million dollars so the whole total comes out to 103 million dollars for the redsox to land daizuke matsuzaka

I would guess the team that he already was drafted by in Japan.
But the Boston Fed Sox already Sign him to a six year 52 Million dollar contract yesterday, so the team he was under contract with keeps the Money, but If for any reson the Sox didn't sign him in thirty day's the Red-sox the money would be returned to the team and He would stay in Japan for another year and then he could be a free agent.

The $51 million foes to his Japanese Team, the Seibu Lions. It was just a fee the had to pay to allow The Red Sox to talk to him. Basically it was guaranteed money for the team for the potential of losing their best player.

The team that he came from gets the posting fee. Had they not successfully negotiated a contract the Red Sox would have received that money back by his former team. It DID NOT cost 100 million overall because the Lions do not get money from the 52 million dollar contract the player signed.
