Because he's the son of the town drunk, is almost illiterate, and not only did he manage to become wealthy because of his wits and bravery in the original Tom Sawyer, but in his own novel he shucks it all away just to ramble aimlessly because he can't be bothered to conform to any rules imposed on him. His story is classic rags-to-riches at first, then he shows his individuality in the second part. Huck'll never be a "wealthy gentleman," even if he is indeed wealthy.
