Most things in the Bible. A lot of people take them for pure truth, but there are many things they don't know or refuse to accept.
1. There are many times the Bible contradicts itself
2. The Bible is made up of thousands of stories that were told in ancient tribes as word-of-mouth, and though many may have had a factual origin, word-of-mouth histories often change over time.
3. There are many books that are NOT in the Bible, works that were deemed apocryphal (sp?) and not included in the finished product. It makes one wonder who thought they had the authority to say what is or is not acceptible for the finished product.
While I do have faith in something that is larger than we can comprehend, I do not believe the widely held "truths" of the Christian religion. I can respect any religion, but when people change the interpretations of ANY religion in order to suit their own needs, that is just pathetic and sad and arrogant that someone thinks they can predict what their god/goddess/creator wants them to do.

Certainly the references by others here that the myth of a God (religion, afterlife, et al.) has merit. Certainly there is no hard evidence of such and as johnslat stated, it is merely hearsay.
It is amazing how we (our various cultures) continulally fool ourselves with unproven poppycock. The Chicken Little Syndrome is a good example and has apparently been with us for untold generations. The various periods of witch hunting and killing. The earth is flat. Many different kinds of monsters. Maybe we can excuse these as coming from a time when education was for the few and controlled, but what about now. For example, global warming.
Certainly there is evidence of some small degree of warming in some parts of the globe during the last 100 years. However, to conclude that this is cause by, or even contributed to, by Homo Sapiens Sapiens, is truly of the Chicken Little paranoia. There is no such evidence. It is often made much of that a preponderance of scientists believe that this is so, but, if scientist are divided into two groups, those who study the hard sciences of weather (and associated hard science fields) and all other scientists, Those of the former group are solidly against blaming man as the cause or even a contributor.
Even so, evidence of this natural cycle of temperature increase does exist and although we do not know how far the increase will go or when the cycle will change, we should be concerned because it can negatively impact agriculture as we have come to use it.
I believe that we would be far better off to study and prepare for more serious prospective changes in our environment. For example, it now appears that we may be facing another natural cycle and that is the flipping of the magnetic poles. We certainly cannot stop it, and we don’t even know if stopping it would be a good thing, how ever we can prepare to change our lives.
So my vote goes for the Chicken Little Syndrome (or maybe I should say the Chicken Gore Syndrome) because it takes our attention and resources away from real disasters..

The greatest hoax of the 20th century is without a doubt the theory of evolution. Macroevolution is biologically, geometrically, and in all other ways impossible. It simply does not and cannot happen.
Second to that would be the ludicrous idea of the "Big Bang" theory. Since the creation cannot be "observed" or "repeated" it is pure idiotic conjecture by a handful of dishonest scientists who would have the world believe that an illogical idea such as "chance" possesses immeasurable power.
It is a shameful truth that a handful of dishonest scientists have brought good science under suspicious scrutiny.

No. There are large truths contained in the entire myths. they're the distillation of human journey and statement. and they sometimes were outfitted round truly events, yet switched over to make a memorable tale. with the purpose to believe contained in the wrappings is fantasy - yet to be certain the well-known reality interior the parable is as close to as ought to nicely be to divine. And we do not choose Gods or miracles for that - purely intelligence. I reckon faith purely pirates what's well-known, obscures and denigrates reality, supplies you an excuse for avoidance and mindlessness, and establishes a priestly hierarchy to learn from the outcomes. Threadbare convenience blankets dividing and obscuring an interdependent international.

I disagree with the widely held truth that men are simple. I don't know who the hell thought of that but women seem to cling on to this belief. Men can be complex complicated human beings because they are of the species homo sapiens and have the capacity to do so. Men may not be as emotionally driven as women but they are just as complicated as we are.

The afterlife - but I've got to admit, it's a NICE myth.
What makes me think it's "baloney?" Simple - no evidence beyond hearsay that it exists.

A promise often given to those who are truly in need. when the time comes for them to receive there seems to be a disappearing act and many are left without. many promises are seen as not true. They were just meant to be a fictional vision of trust in humanity.

i would view as an obvious untruth that money facilitates happiness. just check out photos of the numerous morbidly obese, sociopathic, greedmongers on the world's "top ten list" of most "successful" ( and, thus, impliedly, happy) people for the obvious proof ;-)

The concept that there is only one way to "Enter the kingdom of God". That you can only know God through one man. Because i have met two Saints with the power of shaktipat(baptism with spirit & with fire.) and have no doubt there are many Saints on earth NOW with this power.
