My friends ex. hard drive copies his internal one. Why is that and how does he stop it from happening.?

Sounds like he has it set up to backup to the external drive. Turn off the backup and it won't do that anymore.

The software that came with the drive is doing the backups automatically. Open the backup software and turn off "Automatic Backups".

i do not know on these things but it uses to advantage and it visits yahoo questions of Brazil.
