Because conservatives don't care about the lower classes. But they do need cheap cannon-fodder for an unpopular war.

You will see an attempt at a nationalized health care system if the democrats run the house, senate and the executive branch. Just wait till the backlash against "conservatives" in 08. :)

The health insurance companies are very powerful and making money. Our system of health care is changes in many ways. So I think that the health care systems don't want to change what they already have in place.
There are programs, for the poor and low income. Check out your state's website for that information. Insurance in available like that in my state of New Jersey, it is affordable health insurance.

The German health care system is going bankrupt. America has the best doctors in the world. The financing of our "system" is pretty screwy but in terms of care rendered it is the best. England recently met a goal that had been believed to be unattainable: beginning cancer treatment within two months of diagnosis. In the US treatment begins within two hours of the diagnosis.

We could. In fact, I'm sure America could have a great nationalized healthcare system.
However, we choose not to.
Some nations choose to have nationalized healthcare because they feel a sense of responsibility and compassion toward their fellow citizens. Some nations don't feel that, so they choose not to.
