My son wrote a note to Santa asking for an elf to take care of until Christmas (when Santa will take the elf back to the North Pole). He left reindeer food and water.

Very cute. Have Santa write back that every child is asigned one elf and that the elf he is assigned can't leave the North Pole because he has to make his gifts for next year, but he promises to have the elf write him every once in a while. Then Go and make a fake elf name and a north pole email address and become a elf pen pal to your son. He will love that! You might just find out kids love to confess to elfs on the bad things they do more than they do their parents lol.

That is too cute. Maybe leave your son a little pair of "elf" shoes or hat (easily crafted with some felt and bells) and a note explaining that the elf would really like to stay but has many important things to do for Santa year round.
Isnt' that funny what they come up with?! I love the innocent magic of kids and Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!!

You get elves on Christmas if you are good, they pick a kid, get in a box like the one below and get Santa to drop them off, or you can buy one. I live in Alabama and in Oxford you can go to the mall a buy one, but its up to Santa, you can get them in Books A Million at the mall. After you buy it ask Santa if it's ok. After that if it's ok with Santa, he could help you name it (you have to name it). And every year close to Christmas he/she will come back and give you lots of surprises, like it might hide in the tree, but it will have to go home on Christmas Eve. But it will be back next year.

I so want an elf! Your son has a great imagination and obviously cares about people to want to do such a thing :)
