Sounds to me like your losing your mucus plug, you can lose that weeks before you go into labor, but you need to let your dr know so they can put it in your chart.

How long have you been having these pains? Early contractions of labor feel very much like period pains or menstrual cramps. The "stringy gak" thing may be your mucus plug if it has that thick gooey constistency.

Do these pains feel different from Braxton-Hicks (practice) contractions? If they are BH contractions you could still be weeks away from labor.

This could be early labor. Do you know how accurate your due date was? Give your doctor or midwife a call. If the pains intensify and become regular they will probably want you to come in and be checked. Also keep an eye out for bloody streaking or "show" and for any leaking or gushing of amniotic fluid. Those are other signs of impending labor.

The pain you are feeling is more than likely Braxton-Hicks contractions. As for the the discharge, it could very well be your mucous plug. I am 36 weeks today, and have been having the same feelings, but I found out yesterday that I am 1-2 cm. dilated and lost my plug! But don't worry about it too much, many women can start having early labor and it can go on for 2-3 weeks before the active labor begins. Just make sure you get as much rest as you can, and not overdo it.

the pains....call your OB and describe them and see if they want you to come in for an exam. could be braxton hicks, or something else.

the "gak" could be your mucus plug, but it's probably just increased discharge. i had this when i was about 35 wks too.
it'll happen soon, just hang in there for a few more weeks!

You may want to contact your doctor to be sure everything is okay. You can never be too safe when it is your child.
