And does any type of HPV cause genital warts?

I received a call from my GYNO and she said that she found some irregular cells that could carry HPV. She said that they will have to put some dye on my cervix and that I'm going to have a biopsy on my cervix. Is it painful? And will have to take the rest of the day off of work?

There are 23 different strands of HPV, only about 3 are cancer cells, the rest are bacterias. Men carry the HPV cells also. But if the strand is cervical cancer, then that could've been passed too you through genetics. I had cervical cancer when I was pregnant. They treated it after I had my son. Of course I had too have a hysterectomy. But everything is good now.

HPV is an STD because that is basically the only way you can get the virus is through sexual contact. And HPV is the same virus that causes genital warts AND cervical cancer. The virus can reside dormant within the cells of both the woman's and the man's sexual organs for years before becoming active.

As for the biopsy, it is very similar to a pap smear - you get into the same position, and at worst you will probably have some pinching sensations & maybe some mild cramping (which can be helped with motrin when you're done) and maybe some spotting for a day or two.

Be absolutely sure you ASK QUESTIONS about anything that might be of concern to you. Never assume anything and be sure to stay in contact with the doctor(s) performing your biopsy.

yes it causes the warts..its a virus spread by sexual contact...so its a STD....but this contact could have been YEARS ago...probably/maybe before marriage??? The biopsy will be a uncomfortable..isnt everything that a gyn does uncomfortable?...they will numb you up and take a sample...or two or? this is indeed a little nick of cervix...and may cause you some cramping..you will also have discharge for a few days afterwards....depends on your pain level..I remember going on with my day afterwards...good luck..you'll do fine...

The virus can lie domant for a long time. You could have gotten it before you were married or your hus could have has sex with someone before you were married and given it to you. Don't stress so much about it being an STD. It is a little different than other STDs.

HPV is classified as an STD because the bacteria can be carried on the male penis. You have increased risk of getting HPV when you have sex.

HPV is a virus, not a bacteria. It is transmitted through sexual contact.
