I brought this laptop on ebay for $40 and all it had was an external floppy drive and cd drive. so if you do have any answers please let me know in basic english.

I don't know about the male and female computerthingy so sorry if you tell about some male drive.

It depends on the age and sophistication of the laptop, but if it has a card slot on the side (it would almost look like a floppy drive, but a little skinnier) you can add a USB hub card. It looks like a long, thick credit card with USB ports on the end, and runs about $20. However, if the laptop does not have any USB ports already, it may be too old to support USB.

i think the cable is going to be worth more than your laptop, they sell "parallel to usb" cables.

you'll have to shop around of course for the cheapest price but they range anywhere from $15-$20.
a parallel port is the 25 pin(holes) purple plug on the back of your laptop. the cable that you should get should have a 25 pin male parallel port on one side and the usb on the other. im sure you know what i mean by male...
