This is a physics question not a chemistry one.

A buoyant force of 250 lb will keep a body of 250 lb floating on any liquid provided the solid has normal density, medium surface area.

Buoyancy is the upward force on an object arising from the displacement of the fluid (i.e., a liquid or a gas) in which it is fully or partially immersed. This force enables the object to float or at least to appear lighter.

this upward force is the buoyan force.
