Other than telling them not to get pregnant? Sure. Get the statistics that show a pregnant teenager's chances of getting more education, getting a good enough job, staying out of poverty, etc. Show the correlation between single parenting, poverty, and violence. If you can find such a statistic, show that children born to teenagers that are placed up for adoption do better in life. Show how teen pregnancy negatively affects the economy, strains the welfare system, and negatively impacts the cost of healthcare.

Good question. I experienced it through my daughter but with a kind of strange circumstance.

My teenage daughter went to live with my parents but it was not because we didn't want her; quite the opposite. Anyway, my daughter got pregnant when she was 16. When they are both underage; you as a parent have a tough decision to make. Do we bring charges against the boy for doing this? We decided not to because he's going to be punished for the rest of his life but he did end up in jail due to unrelated charges. Then, you have to think about your daughter and the baby. She's 16 and will be 17 when the baby is born. Abortion, adoption, or keep the baby. She was underage but I was brought up not knowing much of anything. A lot of parents back then really didn't go into the background of anything until it was too late. She knew I was against abortion but I did not make that decision for her. She decided to keep the baby even though she knew what she would have to go through when the baby was born. I let her drop out of school because she was losing weight and she wasn't getting the proper rest. My granddaughter was born in April and my daughter did go back to finish high school in August of that year. She graduated with honors. My granddaughter will be 8 on her next birthday and my daughter is going to college and working to give her daughter a better life but it is hard on her.

What I am saying is don't sugar coat the discussion. Lay it all out on the line. A few minutes of pleasure can have consequences.

Wow, . . .there's so much to talk about there. I remember after I had my first baby (happily married) I thought "HOW in the hell would someone on their own do this?!" I didn't have the 'stress' of finishing school, getting out of my parents house/being on my own and it was overwhleming. Even in the best circumstance it is a huge adjustment. It is NOT all dressing the baby up and going to the mall. I hope you really get through to some of the kids you'll be talking too!

talk about the the struggles, especially if the father of the child is not in the picture. Talk about how getting pregnant will not make him love you more. Talk about ways to get help if you are alone in the situation.
