yes, i think if people promoted marriage more more children would have stable families, not wondering where there dad or mom has been all of there life. I think marriage is a very positive thing and should not be seen in a negative light. wht not get married when you're doing all the things married people do, to me it can lead to suspicion if you dont want to commit to that person

wow what a question for 2006. I feel marriage needs to be redefined for what is present day acceptable between two joining in matramony. As an institution it has changed drasticaly in only the past twenty five years and laws concernig marriage are continuely causeing detrement to this institution. The discription Jesus used 2000 years ago will get a man arrested in present day America if exercised as 'man of his house. Except for tax breaks and investment purposes it can be a very looseing partnership. I don't promote nor demote marriage, it can be a wonderful partnership when entered into by 2 unselfish individuals

I think the government should stay out of it. People can make their own private decisions. In many lower income communities, the lack of marriage isn't a problem that can be treated in isolation. Many men are in prison or otherwise unmarriagiable (unemployed, addicted, etc.) I am especially concerned that women in abusive relationships will be pressured to marry. Commitment is great; marriage is only a SYMBOL of that commitment. And if there is no commitment, because one or both persons are unable to commit, then marriage is a sham. I don't feel like we need to promote shams.

I think society as a whole does not place that much importance on marriage. I have three girls, and I will promote them to get married versus just shacking up with someone. I think the hardest part is pratice what you preach, people can not tell their children not to do something, if they engage in this behavior. My children will never see me in bed with a man who is not their father. Unless I'm married, set your standards. It doesn't matter if everyone else is doing it, it doesn't make it right.

Yes, but not in a way that we make people think that their lives aren't complete without it. We should promote it as a healthy environment for two people who want to live their lives together, especially if they want to bring kids into the world. However we should not promote it as the goal in life everyone should strive for. Finding someone you can stand to live your entire life with is a perk in life. To many people think they need to find a spouse to be fulfilled in life. They need to know that they were born with everything they need to live a full rich life and they don't need someone else to make them whole. Having someone else is just an added bonus, if you can find that one right person, if you marry the wrong person you give away your soul.

Now why would you want to do that. There are enough miserable people already so why try to get them to marry and then have to live with it for so many years.
I have heard that variety is the spice of life and i sure do enjoy some spice from time to tme. No I think the opposite and we all should stay single and keep rotating partners so we don't get tired of the same old hanging around all the time.

Don't take me searious......for me marriege is not worth it.for others it may be.

I think it should be supported but not necessarily promoted. I think that marriage should be explained and encouraged if someone wants to get married but I don't think it should be used as a status symbol. Ex: "You're not married to your partner so you're WRONG or not in a 'real' relationship."

marriage is for people who believe in god that kills you for even looking at him. someone you can't smell hear or touch in person and prove. i think marriage is a result of jealousy which most people don't even try to control. that's why there are so many murders in the world and divorce. people seem to be childish wimps that cannot handle there own emotions. and i know from experience what it feels like to be cheated on, but i value friendship differently and as a result i have more friends almost then anyone i know

The government already does. Married people who file jointly get tax breaks.
