First off, let me say:

WELCOME TO MOTHERHOOD!!

Unfortunately, that is a rather normal occurance. They eat very little solid food at 5 months (if any at all), so there isn't much that will "solidify" his bm.

My advice? Try to pull away slightly from things with high fiber in them. Fiber is a natural laxitive, and can cause things to loosen up in the bowel department. Less of the applesauce, squash, beans, carrots, etc. And what is the cereal? If it is the oatmeal, switch to the rice. That is all I can think of. . .

I can't imagine there is too much you can do other then try a different kind of diaper brand. My son also did that when he was that age and I was using pampers. I now use the Huggies Baby Shaped and I find they fit way better. They have more elastic around his back and I find this helps hold 'it' all in more often then not.

I'm not sure which brand of diapers you are using. I have 12 month old twins (boy/girl). I have tried Huggies, Pampers brand, and Luvs. Luvs are absolutely the WORST! They leak out of all sides. Pampers brand and Huggies are the best. I find that Huggies Natural Fit diapers work great for my son and Pamper Flex brand work great for my daughter. Try changing the type of diapers you are using for your son. Good Luck.

Unfortunately the answer is no. Some babies only go poop one time a day and when they do it can be explosive and very messy. It sounds like the poops are nice and soft which is what you want them to be. He does not have diarrhea because he is only going poop one time a day. This is just his normal pattern for pooping and you are just going to have to be ready for it and carry extra clothes for you and your son. There is nothing wrong with him it is just that when he goes he really goes.

Sometimes if the diaper's not done up tight enough this can happen or maybe it's the brand of diapers. Try a different kind.

Its normal! And since he is now getting solids chances are he will poop more. Also he could be teething and sometimes, at least I've noticed, they poop more which can go everywhere!

Good luck!
