Yes, it is...in Japan we do not usually point directions...or wave hands or make gestures a lot.... I got used to these because I have lived there long ...verbally they can give directions. ...just like when you are in the back seat of the taxi..or a car. if the driver is not looking behind, and how he would see where your hands give directions or move...it is possible, no doubt...
you can still give directions..
