This is going to sound gross....but when it comes out little by little it looks like little strands of snot. Mine came out little by little for the entire last 2 months I was pregnant...and it only came out on the tp after going potty. Finally about a week before I had my daughter it started coming out in big clumps with blood and about 3 days before I had her it stopped coming out.

this is from dr. spock,...no not star trek :)

As you probably know by now, getting pregnant introduces you to a new up-close-and-personal acquaintance with your body, and you find yourself wondering about things that never would have occurred to you before. One of these might well be the mucus plug, which your healthcare practitioner probably has mentioned.

As she might have explained, the mucus plug is just an accumulation of secretions that form within the opening to the uterus, also called the cervical canal. The fact that mucus accumulates early in pregnancy is quite beneficial, as it serves to create a protective barrier against infection between the outside world and your growing baby.

As you near the end of your pregnancy, your cervix will begin to thin out and dilate. As it changes, you may lose your mucus plug and find a gooey deposit in your underwear or on the toilet tissue after wiping. It is not uncommon for this mucus to be mixed with brown, pink, or red streaks of blood from the changes occurring within your cervix. Some women may lose the plug at 36 weeks' gestation, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes moms-to-be may not even notice that they are losing their mucus plug because it happens gradually, over several weeks, and they've already grown accustomed to varying but increased amounts of the vaginal discharge that often accompanies a normal pregnancy. If you are earlier than 36 weeks' pregnant when you see blood-tinged mucus, or if you have any vaginal bleeding beyond the first trimester, you should call your practitioner.

Is labor soon to follow?
Rumors seem to abound when it comes to what it means to lose your mucus plug. While there's hardly a pregnant woman out there who doesn't wonder when exactly she will go into labor, the appearance of the mucus plug does not answer this question with any certainty. That said, loss of the mucus plug is often the first sign that labor is approaching. Before you make a mad dash to Labor and Delivery, however, remind yourself that many women do not go into labor for a week or two after this event. In fact, if you are full term--which almost by definition means that you'll be welcoming your new baby within the next few weeks--there is usually no need to even make an after-hours call to your practitioner.

Whatever the case may be, be kind to yourself during this time. Sit back, try to relax, and let nature take its course. Make sure to get plenty of rest because you will need it after labor begins. You may be on your way to helping along a miracle any day now.

You can have all sorts of consitancies of mucus during pregnancy. Some times in less quantities and some times in huge quantities.

It can be kinda gel like and have mucus globs in it, or be just like water and run down your leg.

Generally if you lose your mucus plug there will be some sort of color to some part of it. Blood of some kind. And the way my doctor explained it to me when i thought i was leaking fluid and lost my plug, is that neither the fluid nor the plug will stop and start. Like, you dont lose a piece one day, and then two days later lose some more. I dont know how true that is, since in my head it seems like it should be able to break up in little pieces, but thats what I was told.

I'd call your doctor and tell them what you're experiencing, and see if they can check you.

The mucus plug is just inside the cervix, between it and the bag of waters. So you have to dialate in order to lose it, your doctor can check to see if this has happened, and put your mind to ease.

Personally, I think its just discharge, cause i've experiences stuff like that before, and thats all it was. But iam not your doctor, and every woman is different.

It sounds like normal discharge to me. As you get further along, there will be more and more discharge. Wear a pantyliner - that will help with the gross feeling. When I was pregnant with my third, I would actually go to the bathroom just to wipe. It was really gross. If you have mucus with blood in it, you might want to call the doctor and get checked, though. Good luck - not much further to go!

It just sounds like normal discharge. You'll know the difference when it starts to come out, even a little at a time. It won't be stringy, it'll be hard jelly-like.

I would check with your doc. But i had mine come out little at a time and it was what your describing. But mine had a little pink (blood) in it most of the time.
And it is possible to experience discharge like that also. the only way to know is to check with your doc.

Mucos plugs have blood in them and most women loose them while going to the bathroom so they dont really notice, sounds like you just have a little extra lubrication down there, put it to good use and have some sex maybe it will help the baby get ready to be delivered too =)

the mucous plug is usually stained with blood. It may be just a discharge (normal) or you could be losing your mucous plug slowly (normal). Many woman lose their mucous plugs early to go on and have a perfect delivery at the right time.
