I think it was neither deliberate nor an accident. I say this because I think that there are no "true accidents." Things don't just happen, they happen because someone is not paying attention, someone is driving recklessly because they are under the influence of alcohol, or someone is not in any condition to drive for other reasons (such they are too old and their eyesight is going). In this case, the "accident" happened because the paparazzi was too aggressive, and couldn't just let their "story" and picture-taking opportunity go.

Lady Di really irritated and irked the royal family. She failed to live up to her responsibility of being the future Queen of England, and mother of the future King of England. If she didn't want the responsibility, she shouldn't have married Prince Charles. Yes, she was young and naive when she married. Nevertheless, it was her marriage that made her famous and a household name. Who would have heard of Lady Spencer? It was her marriage into the royal family that made her famous, and she tried to cut ties with her celebrity. And that might have caused her death. Who knows if it was done on purpose? The French chauffeur in the crashed car was drunk as a skunk. She had just left the a hotel for the rich and famous. The French have historical relationships with England going back 1,000 years. Yet, like the JFK killing in this country 44 years ago, it's not the right for common folks like us to know what happened to JFK or Lady Di.

This has always intrigued me and I am glad you asked the question. I think it was not an accident. Princess Diana was very popular and I think the British royalty shunned her from the beginning of her marriage to Prince Charles. I think the marriage was a set-up, but Diana did not know it. When she divorced him and her popularity only climbed, the royal family probably did not look fondly on this turn of events. Who knows, maybe she knew more than they wanted the public to know. Get her driver drunk. Presto. What a tragedy. She was a beautiful person inside and out. I always admired her.

I think it was an unfortunate accident that happened almost a decade ago, and I think people should let it rest in piece already. It has been proved once again, that it was the drunk drivers doing, there is no cover up or conspiracy going on, let all who were involved rest in peace.
