As a single mother of 3 children I work 50-60 hours to support them with no help from the government. I don't have a great paying job, but I make enough to support my family. Why do people insist on helping those individuals who refuse to help themselves. Why do we give to the "poor" at christmas? Why does the goverment support these people? These people need to get a job! When it comes to helping people give to the people who work 40 hours a week and run into hard times. The government should help the people who work to support their families not the ones who don't! Food stamps,WIC,Medical and Job Training should be done away with. Why do I have to pay taxes to help the lazy? When I go food shoping each week it drives me crazy when I have to purchase store brand items for my family and then I see someone with a cart full of name brand items paying with food stamps and driving a brand new car. The "poor" people of today know how to work the system and its time to do away with it!

To Jillary
I do have a college degree and I am teaching my children that they need to work for what they want and not to depend on the government for assistance and take the easy way out.
Sure there are people who are on welfare that really need it because they are unable to work but what about the ones who take advantage?

I agree with you but your anger speaks volumes. It displays all of anger of those of us who work hard to care for our family. The system was designed to help people who were working but still could not get the essentials they needed because they do not make enough after paying bills. But it evolved into a monster of sorts that made people lazier when they realized that the can get more if they do less or nothing at all.

I have had to apply for welfare benefits for my daughter when I lost my job and it is the most degrading experience I have ever gone through because I believe in doing my part for my family as well. But you have to realize that some people do not mind it if they do not have to work. I see people sit in the welfare office with 2 and 3 cell phones, at the store buying steak and shrimp, kids blinged out from head to toe with brand name clothing, yet no one is working any taxable hours.

I get really upset when Christmas rolls around because of all of these toy programs. I am glad the kids get toys but that is no what Christmas is all about. I see people put their kids' names on two or three of those lists (becuase they are not regulated by any means) and by Christmas Day their tree is overloaded with hundreds of dollars of gifts other people have paid for for every child they have. It is very upsetting.

The government just makes it too easy for people to be sorry and lazy and okay with it.

I completely agree with everything that you just said. I know what you are saying about buying the store brand while the welfare people get all the good stuff....I don't know I think that it is f'd my self. I also think that there should be a 2 year limit...5 year lifetime max for welfare....and people on welfare must report once a month to prove that they are either looking for a job...or going to school.

I give to childrens charities at Christmas. I don't really miss the $50...I take it out of the Christmas fund that I have set in place. I like to give to the children at Christmas to make sure that they get something...it's not their fault that their parents are worthless....plus....giving is what Christmas is about anyway.

My Grandmother told me something once...and it has always stuck.....

Give to charity and help the poor....because you are doing the right thing....those that abuse the system and use what you give them for other things will have to come to terms with it in the end.

It's not right to take away from those with genuine need to prevent the scam artist from profitting.
