Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Mexico combined do not equal the trade America has with Canada. Heck, we have a $220,000,000,000 trade deficit with the Canadians. We sell them machinery & equipment, motor vehicle & parts, oil, chemicals, and electricity. They sell us motor vehicles & parts, industrial machinery, and aircraft. Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Mexico buy things like plastics, aircraft & aircraft parts, automobiles, industrial equipment, transportation equipment, consumer goods, chemicals, vehicles, medicinal products, telecommunications equipment, petroleum, machinery, iron & steel, metalworking machines, steel mill products, and electrical equipment from the U.S. They sell us things like zinc ore, oil, natural gas, coffee, bananas, cut flowers, copper, gold, oil & oil products, silver, fruits, and cotton. People are always going on about how trade with Mexico, Central, and South America is costing Americans jobs. That's simply not true. The reason America is losing manufacturing jobs is due to technological advances. And even if we were losing jobs to trade, Canada would be the culprit. But nobody talks about restricting trade with Canada. So I gather, they either don't understand economics; don't know history; aren't aware of exactly what we trade; or are bigots against Latin America. Or maybe they're some combination of these. The truth is free trade, monitored by an organization like the WTO, is good for everyone. It enables countries to grow beyond their production-possibilities curves. Opposition to free trade merely confuses and ultimately hurts America.

Like when Clinton signed NAFTA, this will only be beneficial for Peru and the "fat cats" there and here. This, like NAFTA will result in more jobs lost here in the States and bad working conditions for the people of Peru.

There goes some more American jobs. You can bet, that just like NAFTA, and Bush's new North American Union with open borders to Mexico and Canada, http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=14965 it will include the loss of lots more American jobs and industry. America's big corporations are drooling over the prospect of even cheaper labor, no benefits, and no environmental laws to obey. Whenever something sounds too good, it usually isn't.
