At what point? the genitles dont form until week 13, and theyre not really any different from eachother (male and female) until about 15-16 weeks. Although the penis and testicals can look exactly like the vulva and lips of the vagina until about week 18, so the best time to get an accurate reading is around 18-20 weeks.
You can tell the sex from that point until birth.
The procedure is done with ultrasound during a check up to make sure all vital structures and systems are functional, usually between 15-20 weeks. It takes the technician a few seconds or a couple minutes to find the genitles and read what they are. Thats if the baby is laying in such a way that they can be seen.

how far along do you have to be to be able to tell?? Usually at least 15 weeks. An ultrasound is usually done between 16-22 weeks and that will be the big one with all the cute pictures and hopefully be able to see what you are having. Don't get your hopes up too high though, babies sometimes like to play shy! My daughter was sitting with her back facing out and her legs crossed....tech tried everything but she wouldn't move. Good Luck though!!

Sometimes, we can see it at the ultrasound at 12 weeks gestation. At your 20 weeks ultrasound, the Dr. is suppose to see it. But, For my two kids, they were not able to tell because the baby had is legs crossed...
I heard also that they don't tell you if you are to pushy to know. In 2006, some people cause abortion because they don't have the right sex! In the hospital I work, they stoped saying what sex it is because of that...Sad he!

Do you mean in a sonogram? I think it's the 20 week scan where they are most likely to see either the "turtle" for a boy or a "bun" for a girl.
Case, can I ask how in the world they saw any genitalia before 3 months? They haven't formed yet...

At 16 weeks they can tell. but i suggest you wait til 20 weeks or 22 weeks to be sure. i am 18 weeks and found out the other day i am having a boy , but he was so active that it was easy to see what he was. some babies don't co-operate

With my oldest child, I found at just before my third month, then with my second they couldn't tell until 8 months. It varies. The baby has to be in proper position to find out.
