It reminds me of the huge y2k scare back in 1999. What are some of the alternate theories about what's really happening with the climate? Is there really a political agenda behind this global warming threat?

Few people would dispute that there is a RECENT trend towards a warmer global climate. However, many further contend that this is a natural cycle that occurs periodically, even before combustion engines and spray deodorant existed. It's difficult to know exact cause and effect, but much of the hype going on now is due to our recent advances in detection and monitoring technology. It's just difficult to make a strong conclusion based on the fact that our period of observation is relatively short in light of the overall epoch of the Earth.

And, yes, any scare tactic that can be exploited for political gain usually is.

Anther theory is that the climate has been changing ever since agriculture started about 8 to 10 thousand years ago.
