Suddenly, we have seen all kinds of news reports, Al Gore/Oprah specials and famous actors flooding the media with the looming threat of global warming. It reminds me of the huge y2k scare back in 1999. What are some of the alternate theories about what's really happening with the climate? Is there really a political agenda behind this global warming threat?

The earth is a really big place. It seems hard to swallow that we puny humans could really do something to change the global climate. Few people would dispute that there is a RECENT trend towards a warmer global climate. However, many further contend that this is a natural cycle that occurs periodically, even before combustion engines and spray deodorant existed. It's difficult to know exact cause and effect, but much of the hype going on now is due to our recent advances in detection and monitoring technology. It's just difficult to make a strong conclusion based on the fact that our period of observation is relatively short in light of the overall epoch of the Earth.
And, yes, any scare tactic that can be exploited for political gain usually is.

Anther theory is that the climate has been changing ever since agriculture started about 8 to 10 thousand years ago. The clearing of forests and the raising of animals for food is thought by some to have changed the Earth's climate from what is was before that. Scientific evidence is only that. What is happening is clear. What is causing it is not so clear, but I fear that we may have to endure more hurricanes and more tsunamis and more wildfires and tornadoes before we DO find out on way or another.

Geologically, it is known as climate change. And it has been going on since the Earth was created.
Yes it is getting warmer, but no because of anything that we have done. The Earth just does this. There was a mini-Ice Age during what we call the "medieval Period."
The Earth is still moving out of that Ice Age.. and the major one before it...
The Earth will eventually get to the humidity and warmth that it had when the "Terrible lizards" roamed.
And then it will swing back and cool off again....
yeah... we might lose california and Flordia...
but it's because of the Earth's impact on us... not out impact on the Earth

My name is Rafael Lomena. I write from Alicante (Spain). I am independent investigator on the Accelerated Global Heating and want to share with all something that can turn out from interest to fight this phenomenon.
I believe that the main cause of the Accelerated Global Heating is in the great and increasing forest fires that are whipping to the planet in the last years.
My complete report is in: http://inicia.es/de/rlv/clim.htm
If they do not understand the Spanish they can use the automatic translator that will find in the main page of site:

Thanks to all.

It's all political...what better way to have public look at another politician look like they don't care about the enviroment or the future of children.
Other theories include solar flare ups at the sun spot locations.
But my Idea...natural occuring global change that has occured before in the millions of years past...and theres actual proof of that.

The "alternate theory" is called truth, or a natural cycle. Yes, the other theories are from the environmental "doom & gloom" crowd.
