Because of certain holiday plans, my family is spending Christmas morning in a hotel near my sister's house. Her home is small, and she shares it with a roommate -- so staying there is a no go. However, how do we make the hotel a little more festive without stepping outside the hotel guidelines? Waking up in a typical box hotel room is anything but merry. Help!

go to walmart or walgreens and get your self a small artificaial xmas tree and some lights and set it up over on one of the tables. Bring in some poinsettias to! and buy a nativity scene. Then go to church and put Christ back into Christmas. Marry Christmas and Good Luck!!

What I would do is to get a fake tree, but it does not have to be 5"in tall... you can get a 4' tree and it will not be a big deal, i have done it. get some Christmas table cloths and put them on the table and desk areas in the room, along with some candles (the hotel might not want you to light them, but just having them set up will look cozy. you could also get some Christmas window clings.. you can take them off the windows when you leave. hang the stockings on the wall, 3m makes really cool hangers that stick to the wall and can be taken down very easy, without leaving marks. something that my parents did when we stayed in a hotel was they brought all of our own bedding... you feel better when you have your own things. it is endless what you can do! decorated it just like you would your own place, sure you will have to pack a little more but it will be well worth it when you feel like you are home for the holidays!

Take a tiny tree (can be purchased from Walgreens, Dollar Tree etc.) get some battery powered lights (also available from the same stores) and put it on the desk in the room. Get some fancy garland and drape it over the mirrors and over the curtains and play Christmas music. You can buy a Pine scented candle and light that or use peppermint or cinnamon and apple potpouri in an open dish. Have a good attitude. This can be done for about $10.00.

I am in a similar spot...luckily no kids to plan for. My bf and I will be spending Christmas Eve night in a hotel room while we're visiting my parents. I didn't even think about "Christmasing" up the room until I read your question. Maybe a small artificial tree and presents. Also, hang your stockings (maybe from the drawer handle?).

How about a small tabletop tree with lights and small decorations. It's small and portable and e3asy to set up. And would probably provide a lot of cheer. Just pile your gifts (for sister and rest of the family) in a chair beside the table. Oh and you need some christmas music too. Maybe some cds and a small boombox.

Ouch... been there before but worse !! I spent 5 Christmas' on US Navy Ships deployed at sea.

I kept a tiny (18 inch tree) in my stuff, complete with tiny battery lights... a strip of garland, and tiny balls. I'd also carry yarn to hang our shops Xmas cards. And one year I brought secret stockings for our group.

It's the color, the idea... the MUSIC... and the PEOPLE that make things cheery !!!

Have a Merry Christmas !!

Bring thr stockings - if you do stockings - and stocking holders that can be set on a table, do the stockings at the hotel. As many others have said, do a small tree- they have plenty with lights already in them. Bring a few of your favorite and non breakable ornaments to go on it. Bring the Christmas cards and set them about.

I'm in a similar boat this year, and this is what we'll be doing.
