In the early days of whaling, long before modern "factory ships" and harpoon canons fired from the deck, they lowered small boats into the water and approached the whales to harpoon them by hand. The whales didn't take kindly to this, and many men lost their lives, either as a result of a direct attack on the boat by the harpooned whale, or simply by being dragged to their deaths when the whale dived and pulled the boat underwater.

If you are asking about attacks by whales on people who were minding their own business and not trying to kill the whales, then probably the only records are a few attacks by killer whales (which are actually a type of dolphin rather than true whales), that probably mistook divers in wetsuits for seals. This happens a lot more with sharks than with killer whales though, probably because whales are just a lot smarter than sharks.

I would assume so, but am too lazy at present to google that and present you with proof. Maybe after some coffee.

There was a case last week or so in the US where a killer whale tried to drown one of it's trainers at Sea World in San Diego California - so that's what, attempted murder?

Then again - they are "killer" whales, so we shouldn't act surprised

No whale that lives in its natural habitat has ever so much as attacked anyone. Killer whales, who are not whales, but dolphins, have never attacked a human being.

i saw on tv a diver filming whales, must have annoyed it so whale bit diver & dragged her down. realising she was struggling for breath it took her back to surface. it doesnt answer your question but they dont seem to be killers.
