well, for me......
i was a little late. i was about 3 days later than my due date.
it was my first pregnancy.
i woke up saturday morning with some little contractions. they weren't very strong and i kind of laid in bed for a bit deciding if they really were contractions. they didn't hurt at all, they were just a little like "oh, i think that was contraction."
i was having them pretty frequently and so i called my sister. she was my pregnancy guru!
so, i told her i was having these little contractions and i wanted to make sure that the real deal should really hurt.
she assured me that i was probably having contractions, but that when it was time to go to the hospital i would know. she told me to wait until they got really big and strong.
so, i got a shower, got dressed and my husband and i went to watch football at a friend's house.
we were there all day and i was having contractions the whole time. i was just waiting for them to get really big.
so, by about 8 or 9 at night they were getting strong enough that i had to kind of bend over and breath deeply when they came, which was about every few minutes.
they finally got strong enough that i wouldn't feel like a total wuss going to the hospital, so my husband and i got our stuff together and went to the hospital! honestly, it wasn't too bad. by the time i got through the assesment process and got to my room, though, the contractions were pretty strong and i was definitely ready for an epidural.
as soon as i got the epidural i felt no pain and just hung out. my husband and i watched tv and played cards until the next morning when i had the bean!
as for the pushing....i could barely feel the contractions, so it was virtually painless. as soon as i felt some pressure, then i knew i was contracting and then i knew i should push. i just focused all my energy on my birth canal and pushing the baby out!
it's similar to focusing on pushing out a poop....but it's a lot more pushing and a lot more concentration!!!!
it only took me 15 minutes of pushing to get him out and then it was all done!!! mission accomplished!
i wish you the best labor and delivery possible. you will be fine. just remember that your body is doing what it does naturally, and if there's one thing that all women were made to do, it was to have children.
take care and have a great time with the baby!!!

My son was born on Jan 1st. On new years eve I just felt like something wasn't right. It felt like I was coming down with a cold. I ate a little, but nothing appealed to me.
My son was late by a week. They were going to induce labor right after the holidays.
It is natural to be nervous and anxious so please try to enjoy your holidays and not worry about it. Women have been doing this forever, so, your body knows what to do, even if your brain does not.
I chose to have a saddleblock with both of my kids. I know there are pros and cons for doing so, but honestly, I'm a huge baby when it comes to pain. I figured that a less stressed mommy was better than a stressed freaked out mommy.
Whatever pain level you experience, keep in the back of your mind that the MOMENT that baby slips out of you into the world, that pain goes away. You have the most euphoric feeling (of relief I think).
Good luck to you and yours,
Happy holidays.

It really comes as a surprise. I have had 2 kids and I never had the feeling that I was about to go into labor, it just suddenly happened. Labor is different for every woman. Sometimes the pains are in your back, or sides, stomach, etc. Mine were mostly in my back. I thought I would be scared to death when it happened with my first one, but that really wasn't the case. I was a bit nervous but not that bad. You tend to concentrate more on giving birth and less on being scared. Good Luck! It wont be as bad as you think! It's all worth the pain.

With my first daughter I went to the 49 week mark my doctor told me to go to the hospital for a stress test that weekend if the baby didnt come. I smiled and told him I wouldnt need it. Somehow I knew I would go into labor and sure enough that Saturday morning I did. Its started with just mild cramps all over my bell and just progressed on harder. Now I only took stadol for a pain killer which only worked for a while to lessen the pain. I also had back labor which is where the babys head keeps leaning back on my spine I swore she was trying to come out my spine. :) All in all it hurt ALOt but it was over pretty quick and then I was just sore for a few days. I think the worst thing about after was when your milk comes in I didnt breast feed so they gotten so swollen it was awful. They kid makes it worth it though . Good luck and God bless

My first pregnancy is kinda a funny story.... I woke up at 1am with me peeing in bed.... I freaked out and ran to the bathroom, got new pj's, went back to bed, a couple minutes later... same thing!!!! I was horrified :) lol!
I did the same routine but this time I put on a pad, and a couple minutes later, waht do you ya know? I peed again...... so I sat on the toilet for about a half an hour, and I would trickle just alittle every couple minutes....
Then the contractions started....
Well, my water was breaking!!!! Instead of a gush, it was little trickles!!!! How the heck would I know that????
My second one I woke up in the middle of the night with contractions...... walked around my apartment for an hour reading a book to get the contractions going, cuz whenever I sat down they would stop :)
My water officially broke in the hospital both times......
So you never know what you will expect!!!!

For me it just happened and i didn't realize it was even happening. I was having small pains (cramping) coming and going. I didn't know what they were until my grandmother told me they were contractions. I went in and sure enough i was in labor. The night before (really late) I wanted to go into labor, so I had sex to do so and just a few hours later....it happened! I was 2 days before my due date. The contractions later gotten worse but once i had the epidural everything went smooth and I couldn't feel a thing.
You'll do fine, it's a wonderful experience.

With my daughter now 8, I felt great I was 2 days late and was shopping and hanging out with friends. That night I got up to go to the bathroom laid back down in bed and when I rolled over to get more comfortable my water broke.
My son 5 years ago, I had a doc appt the morning of his due date, I wasnt in labor doc told me to go home and if I havent had him over the weekend to come in on monday, I stopped of at Taco bell to feed my craving and fell asleep on the couch 2 hours later woke up to my water breaking again.
My 2 1/2 year old was induced a week early for convenience and his size so I knew he was coming.
and with my fourth I am supposed to be induced as well on march 5th =)
The first deliveries were much harder they wait to give you an epidural till 4-6 cent. dilated my 2nd was becasue of my sons size (10lbs) but my 3rd I just sat back had the pitocin and epidural and was very happy calm and relaxed, which I plan to do this time around as well.

Well, the one constant thing with labor is...NOTHING! haha. I have had 3, and let me tell you, it was different every time. My first was so text book. I lost the mucous plug at 12 pm on the 22nd, and on the 23rd at 3:30 am I went into labor (feely gassy, crampy and just uncomfortable), and I went to the hospital at 5:30. I gave birth at 3:27p that day.
You never never know how labor will turn out, or when it will happen. Just PLEASE don't rush it...the feeling of pregnancy and the memories that come with it slowly fade away. Hold on to that feeling of having your wee one inside of you...because it happens so fast!
Just try not to 'expect' anything. Because, well, it usually turns out the other way anyway! :)
Congrats!!!!!

the day i gave birthday to my first child was the most exciting day of my life.....for me, it didn't;t happen suddenly ...the hospital made me walk around for 45 min until my contractions got stronger and i began to dilate more.....then the nurses laid me in bed and gave me some pain medication and i feel asleep, waking up only when i felt pain...shortly after that my water broke and they moved me to a different room....the nurse kept checking me and before i knew it they told me i was ready....i got the epidural..and a half hour later my baby girl was born ......iam not going to lie...it is painful giving birth ..i do recommend getting the epidural...it does take away alot of the pain....and the nurses are there coaching you ..and your partner is there comforting you....it makes it so much better...once you hear them say i see the head it gives you so much motivation to push ...and when you look at your baby for the first time it is the happiest moment of your life....don't be nervous it is a beautiful experience...i wish you the best of luck!

I went into labor with my daughter at 38wks/6days. I woke up at 6am to light contractions and then got the sudden urge to clean. I cleaned the house from top to bottom in less than 2hrs. By noon my contractions were still light but they were kinda regular (about 6-10min apart) and when I went to the dr they said my water bag was bulging and about to break so they admitted me because I was in active labor.
I didnt think I was going to have her that day because I'd been having regular contractions and braxton hicks for weeks. My dr said that the sudden urge to clean should have been my clue to come in LOL
I was not in pain with my contractions until they broke my water. Make sure they give you pain meds (If your going to use them) prior to them breaking your water because my daughter came less than 2hrs after they did mine and I didnt get the chance for an epidural.
