Records get beaten all of the time in all sports. Will there ever come a point in the future when Humans are as physically advanced as they possibly can be and no more records can be broken?

We're just about at the peak now. Records are still being broken but these days new records are only better than previous records by tiny amounts. I think it more likely that we'll progress by changing the boundary of peak physical human ability with genetic engineering or nanotechnology.

we probably have reached the peak already - you just need to look at it from the right perspective: if someone takes 1/100th of a second off the 100m record, is that a real improvement? technically it is, but from a common sense perspective it isn't - these runner are all going extremely fast, but there isn't much chance that any of them will ever outrun a cheetah. if records are broken by infinitely small increments, it'll take an infinite amount of time for the improvements to be material.

We already have genius. So did the last generation and the generation before that. The peak of our abilities change. It's called evolution, it's as proven a theory as there is and it explains this question well. Records will always be broken.

No it is just that these are all " since records began".

Do you really think that any of these focussed, modern athletes can run any faster than, say, a Cro- magnon prehistoric hunter, chasing a reindeer? Or lift heavier weights than the guys who built Stonehenge?

No , the obsession with "records" only goes back a few hundred years. As civilisations are born and die, so do their records. There is nothing new under the sun.

I don't know, but that is really interesting. I've never thought of that before. I don't think we'll ever reach a point where it stops. With technology and healh care getting better every year, we've got endless possibilities. Good question.

With the enormous growth of medicine, therapies, and sports science, things are going to be more spectacular, but there are no limits to human endeavour.
