He changed it to reflect his own ideas. In this way, people would read the Bible and believe that it reflected his own qualities. It helped to enhance his power.
Obviously, it would be better if everyone were taught the truth about everything. Unfortunately, that's not the case, which is why there are so many people that live in ignorance for all their lives.

According to Wikipedia - The King James Version was first conceived at the Hampton Court Conference, which the new king convened in January 1604, in response to the problems posed by Puritans in the Millenary Petition. According to an eyewitness account, Dr John Rainolds "moved his majesty that there might be a new translation of the Bible, because those which were allowed in the reign of king Henry the Eight and Edward the Sixth were corrupt and not answerable to the truth of the original."
Even the King James Bible has been altered since first approved in 1611, most notably the omission of the Apocrypha in the 19th century. I personally have 4 different Bibles in my house, including the KJV, as well as copies of the Talmud, Ko'ran, and Gnostic gospels.
The problem is, which teachings are correct? This is open for debate. Should we include the Septuagint which is the Greek version of the Old Testament used by early Christians and Jews? The Catholic Church still recognizes these as canonical, but Protestants do not.
As for the second part of the question: with the disparity between different versions, it is impossible to say with any conviction which teachings are wrong. The questions we must ask ourselves are "Do these teachings glorify God" and "Do these teachings follow the tenet of Love thy Neighbor". It is not for us to judge people - a Higher authority has that power.

King James did not personally do anything. The Bible was translated into English during his reign, and so he is credited. The King James version of the Bible comes from the same source as the Catholic Bible (a fact I find ironic).
The Apocryphal books were kept out of the KJV due to their primarily historic nature, and the belief that this was the "Hebrew dark ages," Holy Spirit speaking.
As far as wrong teachings, you would need to be more specific.

Though King James wasn't the greatest person morally, he did have the Bible translated into a language the common people spoke. For many years, there were very few different translations (most Bibles were only for the religious leaders to read)
I disagree with SheDevil. It is impossible for someone to be a devout Christian without reading the Bible.
p.s. Is there something specifically that King James "changed?" I'd be interested to see more details.
Best of Wishes.

King James didn't change the bible, he appointed a commission to translate it from the oldest texts in the original languages to the common spoken english of the time. He went all out to get all the best schollars he could. Many people think they did a good job but modern english speakers have trouble understanding the 400 year old language. Anyone can come up with wrong teachings from the bible. Satan used wrong teachings from the old test. to try to tempt Christ when he went out to the desert for 40 days and nights. If you believe with your heart and do simple good things like help the poor, you will have no trouble figuring out what the right teachings are. If you think believing is about using your head to get the right teachings so that you win and get to judge others for having the wrong teachings, then you have missed the point about believing. If you aren't a believer, you can't get it right. If you really believe in your heart and follow Christ's commandment, "Judge not, lest you be judged yourself," then you will have God's guidance to understand the right teachings.

King James didn't exactly change the Bible, what he did was arrange for an updated translation of it. The English language was at the end of a dramatic change around 1600. The KJV of the Bible came out originally in 1611, but the spelling etc. was updated 100-150 years later. As long as the human race is on earth, we will continually need good translations of the Bible so that it can be understood.
I think that people who knowingly misrepresent the precepts in the Bible have a special place reserved for them in Hell. There is a lot of bad teaching and theology out there. A lot of it is on TBN.

The Bible has been edited numerous times, translated through several different languages. The Roman Emperor Constantine held the privy council decided what books were included and excluded from the Bible.
The Bible is a great book, but every top theologian and biblical scholar will tell you that there are parts of the bible that are more important for the message it conveys, and that its not a history book
This goes for the new testament as well it 2 sections of the bible they trace. The generations from Jesus back to David except in 38 generations in one section and in 44. Mark and Luke I believe

Change it? King James didn't change the Bible, he had it translated out of Latin into English, making it more available to the common man, rather than just the priests and well educated.

There were many other books that were "weeded out" to a much more society pleasing book. some of the other books good disrupt more than do good. people should read the bible with an open mind no matter what religion they are. even though GOD or OUR LORD SAVIOR JESUS did not write the bible they inspired every word. so they can speak personal with you when you read the bible, but those who preach and are not preaching the word the way it should be are therefore false prophets and they will be judged.
