I took a video of my son's holiday play that I would love to upload onto my computer to be able to email it to family and friends. The camcorder does not write onto DVDs so I have it on one of thise little tapes that can be plugged into VHS tapes...if that makes sense. I would pay to have it done also if I knew what type of place would do it for me.

Most important part and the one that you may have a lot of trouble with is getting the video into your computer. There are a few ways you can do this. Either have somebody copy the tape into a DVD or connect your VHS player to your computer (by a capture card).

Next step would be to convert the dvd file to a smaller file. There are numerous software out there that you can import the dvd file and output it to a more manageable file like an avi or wmv. There are so many avi and wmv formats that you can choose from to get the file size to what you want. The smaller the file the less resolution you get.

If you end up with a higher resolution file, hence a big size file you can upload it to a site where they store your movie file like yousendit.com, megaupload.com or rapidshare.com. It will give you a link to that file and that's what you send to your friends and they can download it. You can also try and share it using yahoo messenger. I don't know that size limitation on yahoo massenger but I have shared big files through it before.

If you think you will be doing it a lot in the future I suggest you invest in getting a capture card so you can connect your camcorder to your computer, plus invest in a good conversion software.

If you recorded an entire play and put this on dvd, the file size would probably be way to big to email to people as most email server have limits on both sending and receiving large files.

I suggest getting a dvd recorder. Then you can connect your camcorder to it and make as many dvd's as you want to send out.

Good luck!

Unfortunately these two are right, the filesize is going to be WAY to big to email.

However once you get the file onto your computer, if it's less than 10 minutes (or if you can break it into 10 minute segments) you could upload them to Youtube and send your family links to see them.

I hope you find someone to help. Try Rite aid though. They often download pictures from digital cameras. Perhaps they have the wires then to help you with your camcorder?
