I am going to the doctor today and they are probly going to do an u/s, and I was wondering if you can see the baby then or just the sack. I know at 8 weeks you can see the baby, but not sure about 5 weeks. and also, Is the heart beating yet? Would I be able to see that? I have had a miscarriage before and for me to see a heartbeat is the most important thing, that way I know everything is ok so far. Thanks

The reason my doctor does this is the get a goos due date. With all my babies I have had one at my first checkup.

the baby will most likely look like a little peanut! you will hear a heartbeat, try not to cry-forget that bawl your eyes out! Congrats!

I also had a dating ultrasound at 5 weeks, then another one at 6 and another at 8 and just recently an 11 week ultrasound. My doctor also has a little portable u/s machine he brings in on my office visits to show me that the heart rate is normal and the baby is kicking around. I am 12 weeks now and have had late term miscarriages so my OB is doing more for me then he normally does. As for can you see the heartbeat yet, i am really bad and I do not remember, but I think we were able to see the heart beat.

I think 5 weeks is too early to see the actual baby you may see the sac though. I seen a glimmer of my baby's heartbeat at 6 1/2 weeks but it was really hard to see, why are they doing an ultrasound so early? Most doctors won't do them until you are at least 8 weeks that way you not only get to see the baby and the heartbeat but you also get to hear it. Good Luck.

I think they can't see the heartbeat until 6 weeks and I'll tell you why I know this when I was 5 weeks all they seen was the yolk sac or whatever a week later it looked like a turd with a heartbeat and the reason I get so many is because I'm high risk from the moment the pregnancy test comes back positive. sometimes they do a u/s at 5 weeks is to just to date the pregnancy.

It's my understanding that 6 weeks is the earliest you can see anything. At 6 your baby is still an embryo and that's all you might see. At 6 1/2 weeks you might be able to see the heart beat. But if it's a vaginal ultrasound you have a better chance of seeing it at 6 1/2 weeks.

According to what I found out on the web, you should be able to see the baby with his/her the heart beating. (It starts up about 21 days in the cycle). I had a very early ultrasound (3 weeks) due to some bleading and we could see the actual little ball of cells that developed into my son. They can see some amazing stuff. Google movies has a stock footage of an ultrasound at five weeks:

I wish you the best.

your baby will look like a little grain of rice, but they are looking for the heart beat and it is so cool you can actually see the heart beating! how exciting your first baby pictures congratulations it will be at least 4 more months that you will see a little baby and hopefully the sex.

5 weeks is too early to see a heart beating yet. Baby will be really small - like a peanut at this stage.

I had an ultra sound done at about 5 weeks I was very high risk and I could see something it looked like a grain of rice. They magnified it and gave me a picture it looks like a bugger but absolutely it is a baby. They do a vaginal ultra sound though.

i had a us at 6 weeks and all you could see was the sack but at six weeks i could see the hear beat. im not sure about five weeks, and the only reason i could see the heart beat was because she did an internal us through my vagina.

I am very surprised a OBGYN is going to see you this early, most dont see until after 12 weeks when there is less of a chance for miscarriage, sounds like you may be counting your chickens before they hatch so to speak. I hope everything goes ok for you.
