Excuse me but it is not from devil worshippers, nor did it start as a marketing ploy. The fad going on now may have. But hanging the tree upside down is a pagan tradition. And no I don't mean satanic.

Hanging the tree upside down from the ceiling comes from having small children and not wanting the wee ones to mess with the tree. they can still see and enjoy it but not be able to knock it down or pull ornaments from it.
We've done it :) Looks rather cool (opinion only)

I comes from not having enough room to set up the tree the traditional way. Very ingenious if you ask me!

It woulld be easier if we could put it up to devil worship, but I think it actually came from some advert exec who wanted to symbolise the way the cost of Christmas effects people.

Devil worshippers.

I've never head of any such tradition and it sounds a bit mad to be honest. Why not put the tree up the way it was meant to be?

I dunno. But my family started one year when we got my Great Grandmas old xmas tree, and we put it right side up and all, but outside it looked like it was hanging upside down from the ceiling, so now every year we hang our xmas tree upside down!

I think it's a marketing thing. Just a new twist on an old idea. AND the fact that there's more room for pressies. But I still think it looks stupid. Just my opinion.
