China's One Child Policy is circumvented. Families typically acquire fake Id's for their "illegal children", and hope for the best. If they are caught, the children are at the Government's mercy. They can do almost whatever they see fit. The Executive branch of the Chinese Government has great power. They have an extremely wide latitude in how they decide to interpret and enforce laws. However, the police are by no means inhuman.
The Chinese Government has never done anything horrible as in take kids away, put kids in child labor camps, throw them prison, etc. That's for sure. Government officials are smart and sensitive; the Chinese Government must understand that strict enforcement of the One Child Policy could lead to civil unrest.
After all, procreation is a primal need; I would think that authority condones "respectful compromise."

That would make sense; after all, every human being owes its life to a mother. And only women can "manufacture" boys.
Women are necessary!

I believe this is close to the truth, because I do notice that it is very common nowadays for families to have two children, a boy and a girl. The girl is usually older. Furthermore, the One Child policy HAS been a success in curbing population growth; the typical Chinese family has indeed become smaller. It's obvious to me that having a large 3+ number of children is NOT tolerated.
Maybe the policy should be tittled the One Boy One Girl policy.

well, too huge population in China...actually it has been so expensive to raise a child there especially in big cities...couples in the cities like Shanghai and Beijing are voluntary to have only one child and some even dont want to have any. But in the rural areas, although it is also expensive to raise the children based on the income, many couples are having more than one child. As the aging of the whole nation the government is encouraging people to have two kids if both of the spouses come from one child family.

The government gives certain benefits for having one child - not necessarily housing but certainly with taxes and incentives for education etc - and these are removed if you have a second. And no, they don't just toss their girls into adoption agencies and try again for a boy. You legally have to report when you give birth, so any more than one birth per woman takes away your benefits whether you keep the children or not. There may be a higher incidence of abortion however...
