One of my neons has a kind of silvery film over his eye. What is it? Other than that he seems healthy.

Is it over the eye only? If so, that is probably a gram-negative bacterial infection. Treat with Kanamycin Sulfate -or- Gentamycin Sulfate -or- TMP Sulfa. If your pet store does not carry these, as for medication to treat gram negative bacterial infections and they might have something else.

If it affects other parts of the body as well, it is a Protozoan Infestation. Treat with Metronidazole -or- Quinine Sulfate -or- Nitrofuracin Green.

Follow the instructions on the package and your neon tetra should recover nicely.

Oh, regarding what the guy above me said: it probably isn't fungus. Fungus is characterized as looking "fuzzy". However, he is correct in that many health problems stem from poor water quality. I don't know your current maintenance schedule, but I suggest 20-30-% water changes (with gravel vac) every week.

he has eye fungus. treat with a fungus medication (remove the carbon from your filter during treatment). Partial water change (25%) before and after the treatment. Fungus usually indicates poor water quality and you should set up a regular schedule for water changes (once every 3-4 weeks).
