I'm a senior and I play girls varsity basketball at my high school. I don't get any play time at all. When I do get play time, it's only a minute and in the fourth quarter. I don't want to quit, because if i quit, the team might go to state championship and win a ring and i can't get one. My mom stop picking me up from practice as of last night. 12/14/06 She said that she is tired of picking me up from practice and from games because it is a waste of gas. Please help me!!

stay on the team, there's nothing more important than being on a team...and a state ring!
and about the getting home from practice and games, etc. ask one of your teammates or friends if they will give you a ride home, if they're your friends of course they'll give you a ride.

I played varsity basketball just like you and played, very slightly more minutes, If you love basketball and the fun of being with your teammates, you can find away, find a friend on the team or talk to your mom and make sure she knows how much it means to you. If your only in it for the ring and not for the love of the game then maybe shes right, but if you really love basketball there will be a way.

Aw, I'm sorry this this is happening to you. I say stick with the team and don't quit because of other people. I know it sucks when you hardly get any play time to show off your skills and do something you love but I say stick it out or maybe talk to the coach (If he is nice). Another thing...your mom shouldn't stop picking you up because "its a waiste of gas". Something could happen to you because of that trying to get home..there has to be a reason why she said that.

I wish you luck and I do hope you get the ring!

Don't quit the team you never know you might get more playing time if one of the other girls get injured. As for your mom not picking you up i would suggest maybe getting a ride with one of your team mates parents that live close to you

Approach your coach and ask him/her what you could be doing to improve your skills and make yourself more of an asset to the team. Explain to her that you love the team and you want to play an important role. If your being benched, its most likey because your skills on the court are not as developed as your teammates. Show a positive attitude and a strong effort and the coach should reward you with added playtime.
Don't give up.

Haven't you ever seen Rudy? You need to rent that and watch it with your mom. Get a little inspiration. You may not be a starter, but you choose whether or not you will be a valuable member of the team. Practice hard, be an encouragement to others, show them a great work ethic, and get your ring.

KNOW WHAT I WAS IN THE SAME SITUATION. Wanted to quit 2 but i bought my own goal and practiced hard. When coach saw that he put me in and i turned out 2 be even better than the starter and took his place (kinda like tony romo did drew on the cowboys)so now I'm a starting small forward 4 J.V. and I'm a freshman

Don't be a quitter no matter what. How is your relationship with your coach? Maybe if you talk to him, he can talk to your Mom and let her know how important it is that you stay on the team. Remember: Team = everyone
Good Luck and keep working hard.
