Bargain basement price for a new PC with a 17" LCD screen is around $300. You'll have to watch prices closely to catch these deals at local retailers or on the internet.
However, a 17" screen is too small in my opinion, opt for the 19" or 20" screen.
Typical prices should be about $500, but you should get one that has at least 512MB RAM and 60GB hard disk.
Low prices also mean lower performance, and memory and disk space are where they often skimp.

Depends on what typd of desktop you're wanting, how robust and powerful. Cheap LCD version of dells run around 499 USD.

I get 'broken' windows systems, left out at curbside, or from dumpsters, salvage sales, refurbished
( http://cheaptronicsdepot.com ) and buy the LCD screen NEW for under $199.00 from http://walmart.com
Then, I get the FREE http://pclinuxos.com and boot, run and install 5500 programs, applications, games...
