This year I made a throw blanket for everyone. Go to any fabric store and by 2 yards of 2 different types of fleece. I usually go for one with a pattern and the other plain in a complimenting color. Lay them both out and match up to the best you can the lines, then take scissors and cut frays into the outter edge about 4 inches long, 2 inches apart. Tie the frays into a square knot all around the outter edge. It's makes a great throw blanket and it really only takes about 45 minutes to do. You'll want to wash the blanket when you're done that way the fabric shrinks and the knots tighten.

It depends on what your skills are.

If you can knit or crochet, you can make scarves (because those take the least amount of time to make).

Or you could get a cheap scrapbook or photo album and put together personal albums with pictures and magazine cutouts of favorite bands or actors.

Or, if there's somebody in your family who likes to bake, my mum used to make "cookie jars." She'd get a good-sized jam jar and layer the dry ingredients for a cookie recipe inside: sugar, flour, chocolate chips, etc. Then she would put the seal on the jar, put a pretty piece of fabric over the seal, and close up the jar. Then she'd write out the full recipe for the cookies on a pretty piece of paper and tie that to the lid with a ribbon.

Hope these help!

Mixes - such as your own homemade soup mix or cookie mix in a jar with a beautiful ribbon and instructions on the tag. Nicely packaged homemade cookies are nice. Handmade ornaments or homemade candles. One year I made my homemade fudge and caramel sauces, put them in jars & included inexpensive ice cream sundae dishes. Another year I made pin and earring jewelry sets from paper (they were gorgeous and really treasured by the folks who got them). Handmade cards are wonderful as well. Use your imagination!

If you don't consider yourself fairly crafty, you could always make up certificates - either by hand or on your computer - for free babysitting, free garage cleanout, etc.

I think handmade gifts are the best!

I made some BANNERS based on Traditional Christmas cards and wrapping paper. I think imagery on cards for holidays create an impression that makes a unique memory.

You can visit the blog and follow the links to your high-res full 1000x300 banners for printing your own gift cards, wrapping papers and sending virtual memories online.

Just leave a 'hello' at FLICkr or blog comment...and share the link with other people by email and tell them to say 'happy holidays.'

SOme great mp3 to listen while you choose.

Last year I took some vintage Christmas tablecloths I had collected (I have way too many to ever use) and made small throw pillows out of them. I like to give handmade gifts to my family & close friends and people loved them. You only need very basic sewing skills. They really looked nice and everyone seemed to really like them.

You could make a coupon book especially for someone....Like "Good for one back rub" or "Good for one doing the dishes", personalize it for them from you. Make them pretty and string them together with ribbon or put on a keychain.

Get some of the cheap glass Christmas balls, and write their name on it with glue and then sprinkle with glitter, then draw a design, like a tree, and sprinkle with glitter. One color at a time though. I made these for my kids and nieces and nephews and they still have them 5 years later and look forward to putting theirs on the tree.

cookies are always a good bet! or if they are from little kids to grown ups - ornaments are cute OR handmade picture frames with a picture of the kid and the adult inside
