The Victorian Period was full of change and being very long has many different styles to its literature. I know the Romantic poets were reacting to the evils of the industrial revolution and harking back to when the world was simpler. They used nature to glorify God and tended to idealise rural life. But if you consider what was happening in the cities at that point it is kind of understandable.

Some of it like Tennyson's was soemtimes devoted to building up the mystique of Empire. Like his poems Idllys of the King or Charge of the Light Brigade.

well, seeing that there was no tv or radio, there was not much else to do. people were more aware of their surroundings and of nature and thats the way they expressed themselves.
