We have greens and blackeyed peas. We season the food with pork but don't have pork chops.

No, traditionally, at least down here, we have collards and blackeyed peas. The collards are for money and the peas are for luck. The other superstition we follow on Jan 1st, is that the first visitor to your home must be a man, or you'll have bad luck the rest of the year. I have no idea how any of this came about, but I have been woken up way too many times at 6 am by an aunt telling me to come over!

Pork chops and sauerkraut are a tradition. i guess its good luck to eat this particular mean on new years day. I always do it, and things never turn out too bad for me.

Normally I am too hungover to eat anything like that on New Years day. I will normally have a bloody mary to bite the hair of the dog and then get smashed and eat a burrito later that night.

it is pennsylvania dutch tradition to have pork and saurkraut on new year day. in the south, ham and black eyed peas. both are supposed to bring good luck.

we have pork and saurkraut every year. when we moved to the south, our neighbor was so concerned about us, she brought over ham and bep so we didn't have bad luck.
