Hitler made too many mistakes to assign much to any single operation. It was a mistake to start anything before building twice as many submarines. Russia should not have been invaded until after they were done with England, and then Napoleon even showed him how not to do it. His troops should have been ordered to treat the Russian people with respect, and on and on. Lots of good books out there on the subject.

I think so.

They were at a good staging area able to attack in the middle of summer for Moscow. But the move of shifting the force of Army group center to attack Kiev was fatal. They did destroy a massive number of Soviet divisions, but the Red Army was even then able to regroup whereas precious time and material/men were lost to the Germans.

Overall attacking Moscow would have been the greatest thing. But taking out the USSR was a huge task. Napoleon took Moscow and did not win after all.

For operation Barbarossa, Hitler's greatest mistake became assuming that he ought to take Moscow previously wintry climate struck. for sure he found out his mistake, yet his satisfaction would not enable him to withdraw his men. What could have been diverse? maximum in all probability the Soviet Union could have had a harder time with out the climate on their part. They found out they have been loosing after Stalingrad and Kiev, distinctly whilst the Russians have been advancing and the different Allies had in simple terms invaded Normandy. Why did no longer they exhibit this? by using fact they could no longer kill the morale of the German human beings. their own satisfaction and stubbornness would not enable it the two

His mistake was in attacking Russia in the first place, having assumed that Russia is "a rotten house, you kick in the door & the whole house will collapse).

Also, upon intial victories, he divided his forces into 3 groups, depriving Army Group Centre of the vital manpower & equipment to take Moscow. They were stopped at the outer suburbs of Moscow & wold never get close to moscow again.

By taking Moscow it may have put fear in the hearts of the other Allies as it did when they were shown film of Hitler in front of the Eiffel Tower in France. Other than that it has no strategic value. He should have invaded Britain first then after crushing them he should have turned his eyes eastward. There is no doubt that with a planned invasion from both Norway, France and various other locations Britain would have fallen.

It wasn't a question of a mistake -- he simply could not do it. As a general, Hitler's skills were roughly on a par with those of my cat; he made plenty of mistakes, of which perhaps the silliest was to invade Russia rather than Britain. Of course, by the time that happened, the RAF had pretty well put the kibosh on such an invasion.

The big mistake was Operation Barbarrosa itself. Hitler's armies were not able to take Moscow. His strategic and tactical choices were full of idiocy and it is fortunate more competent Germans did not take the helm. Hiter was a fool and a curse on humanity. I rejoice his defeat.

Hitler did not listen to his generals. The Russian ally, the winter storms, have stopped every invasion attempt ever. They called it General Winter. By the time the Nazis were at a point they could win the war, the Winter set in. The Russians hunkered down and outlasted them. His biggest mistake, however, was surrounding himself with Generals that he liked, rather then competent generals. He also listened to his civilian advisors too much, Goebbels, Himmler, sort of like LBJ, RMN, and GWB.

The main mistake with Barbarossa was that he started it to late and tryed to seage the citys. If he too the country first and then came back for the citys then he may have done beter. But by that time he was already to far gone and no one could change his mind

Moscow is among the biggest cities in the world. Is just a city that has developed rapidly in new years, and, consequently, comprises high-rise suburbs bordering a somewhat lightweight ancient center with lots of fascinating ancient architecture. The most crucial place of Moscow could be the Red Square that has been for generations, one's heart and soul of Russia. Here, you can look at the Century St. Basil's Cathedral, one of the very most famous items of architecture in the world and the constructivist pyramid of Lenin's Mausoleum. Red Square is definitely a wealthy place in symbols of Russia's turbulent and exciting past.
