we live in houses, not caves - we drive cars not camels. even england and spain and france are old fashioned! why are we the best at everything? we rule the world, we have the best tv and music and clothes - everyone else in the world wants to be like america, why would they have a problem with us taking over? i dont understand!

You arrogant idiot. Don't you watch the news/ Ever read an atlas? Did you go to school? If you did, did they teach you that there ARE other countries in the world, besides the all mighty USA, that are civilized????

America is a fine country and I am happy and feel blessed to live here. But we are by no means the only civilized country in the world. Germany, the UK, Australia, France, Italy, Russia, Barzil, Mexico, Canada, Israel, Egypt and on and on, are all civilized and many of those have cultures similar to our own. Some countries may have more poverty than we do, but not all. Take Sweden, Switzerland and again many more. Many of these countries boast literacy rates much higher than our own!
We, too have great pockets of poverty in Appalacia and many more rural and isolated areas, not mention the inner city poverty.
We are civilized although we sometimes don't act to civilized, but we are and so are most of the nations around the world.
Even where there are still tribal and primitive peoples, those nations have fines cities and strong economies and major universities.
Further, not everyone wants to be like us. Yes those from nations with more poverty and less opportunity come here, but I really don't think most Canadians or Germans or Brits want to leave their countries. In fact, most people in most countries are happy where they are.
The UK and Spain and France are old countries, but not old fashioned. They are generally far less puritanical and uptight. London and Paris and Madrid are older cities than we have here, but they are older countries. Yet those cities are modern, fast paced and equpped with the latest technologies. As are most other major world cities, like, Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Rome and more and more.
We don't really rule the world either, although sometimes, especially under this administration, it appears we want to.
We do wield a lot of power and influence, but other Nations do to and some like China and Japan, Etc actually have economic influence on par with us.
Even Bin Laden only rides a camel and lives in a cave because he is hiding. He was educated at an American University and actually was our ally at one time. I do hope we catch him though and perhaps were we less mired in the mess in Iraq, we could.

it's odd that you should say some of these things. half of our tv programs are inspired by foreign tv programs. most of our clothes is made overseas. most of our cars contain foreign parts. almost all of our electronics come from asia.
many of those "old fashioned" countries have produced innumerable scientific breakthroughs. and most of them are wise enough (unlike america) to preserve their history and traditions.
if america seems like the only civilized country in the world, it is only because certain americans have painted that picture for the rest of us. perhaps not intentionally, but that's just the way it is.
