I just found out yesterday that my baby died five weeks ago in the womb. I will now have no insurance as i am no longer what they consider "pregnant" I can't afford another hospital bill i.e. a d&c. What can i do to make it miscarry...or is there even a way? What about blue cohosh. Does that stuff work?

The blue cohosh would not work in this case, because you where not far enough a long and the amount you would have to take would make you seriously sick and still would not help you this early.

I am very sorry for what has happened to you, but you have to really watch on this. Sometimes our body's take care of this naturally and clean out our systems, Sometimes not. If your body does not clean out then you really need to seek medical attention. Since you do not have medical insurance you need to contact the local planned parenting in your area.. Here in my area they are called Family Planning. They base your ability to pay on your income and take payments. If your income is low then services are free.

Good luck to you and remember if your body does not clear itself you can not let this go. You can risk serious infection and serious blood poisoning.

Oh dear I misunderstood your question. I thought you wanted to induce a miscarriage instead of a planned abortion. I'm so sorry! How many weeks were you pregnant? I have never heard of a dead fetus that did not come out spontaneously. Sometimes in very early pregnancy when you miscary it is possible that the body re-absorbs the embryo, but that is only the first month or so. I'm sure that any health insurance would cover d&c as a result of a miscarriage as this is often a necessary aftercare.
By the way, the term 'miscarry' refers to the unborn baby dying in the womb, so technically you already have miscarried. Didn't you have any cramping or bleeding in those past 5 weeks? I would at least go see your doctor and ask for medical advice. If this has totally gone unnoticed it could be that you were in the beginning of your pregnancy. Good luck...

How far along were you when baby died?
Why didn't they off you a D&C?? They shouldn't have turned you away after finding that out. I'd go back to the hospital immediately and demand one since your body obviously isn't disposing of the baby in any way...you could become severly ill...if possible, try another hospital or doctor. The one you had obviously wasn't very good to turn you away like that with no expectation of what is to happen and no option of a D&C.

Avoiding a doctor bill is no excuse for risking your own life. Call your local hospital and or a social services department and ask about public clinics. Also, no doctor can refuse you service. You need to take care of this and NOW. Carrying a dead fetus can cause many health problems for you that can result in your death. As you are sitting here right now your blood is being poisoned. Please take care of this properly. Trying to avoid this bill could result in so many more. Also, your can't just toss a fetus down the toilet or in the trash... It's illeagal. Do the right thing for your unborn child and yourself.

I had a D&C at a women's clinic in NJ where I am from. They go on a scale for people who don't have insurance. It costs me $400 but it was better to pay it then to not be able to have a baby again and endanger my health. It's true the pregnancy may pass on, but only your doc can tell u if it did.

You'll still have to see a doctor. It's possible that your body will take care of it's self but only a doctor can tell you if everything has passed. If it hasn't you have to have a D & C because otherwise the left over tissue can cause a severe infection that can actually kill you.

You need to go ahead and get this done (d&c). Even if you miscarry one has to be performed to make sure that all the tissue as been removed. Otherwise you will get infections and then have many more hospital bills that you can't afford. Look at it this way.... your life is worth more that some stupid bill that you will receive. Besides most place if you talk to someone will let you make payment arrangements.

This is your health - don't any chances or you could end up paying a helluva lot more than you intended. Just go to the doctor and get the d&c. The expired fetus can cause all sorts of problems for you if you don't deal with it now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope there are strong friends and family in your life that you can lean on.

In answer to your question, the insurance companies reasons for not covering you are nonsense. I would get pro bono legal help as soon as possible.

Even if that happens you could still need a D&C. Bite the bullet and let the doc do whatever he needs to do to insure your future health. If anything is left inside you, you could have all kinds of problems, including some that can lead to death. Talk to the doc about your money problems. Sometimes docs know how to get around these things.
