As far as Superman is supposed to be a Messiah-like figure, sure, there's a lot of religious symbolism in the Superman mythos.

He came to an adpotive home from a "basket" like Moses and many other figures of ancient myth, he's god-like in many of his atributes, and he's a protector and saviour of mankind. I mean, even back when he died in the early 90's there was a cult in the comic book that claimed he'd come back from the dead and considered him a deity. And he DID resurrect after dying to save humanity. Sound familiar?

But to me, he's got much more in common with the figures of pre-christian myth (religions), like the Greek demigods, Gilgamesh, Quetzalcoatl, Lugh, Cuchulain and such, than with anything modern western Christianity considers religion.

If you look close enough you can see religious messages in tons of things. Case in point the second Spiderman movie. Totally a Christ on the cross, dieing for the sins of a city and forgiveness reference. My friends didn't get it, but I did. Religion prevades society whether we want to admit it or not.
