Santa wasn't invented; he was St. Nicholas, a man who gave to other people ; in Italian , Santa means Saint ; Santa Claus is based on the real St. Nicholas. He gave without the need to have thanks in return ; the idea of Santa continues to give without the need to getting the praise; we as parents inspire that little bit of St. Nicholas in our children and ourselves. We are not accepting the praise of giving but rather inspire the gift of giving to those who haven't been tainted by the real world . It lasts so few years and now even fewer, I still believe in St. Nicholas, Santa Clause and giving without receiving, the birth of Jesus and so on; you have to believe in something , is it really so wrong to give to others?

Santa was not invented....he actually existed a long time ago....his real name was Saint Nicohlas and he loved kids and the color red. He would give poor children toys during the winter because it was during the birth of Christ.

Because Santa is just a spin-off to St Nick, which really did exsist. His feast is celebrated on Dec. 6th. He would leave little presents (fruit, candy) in children's stockings that were hung by the fireplace to dry after being washed. He did this to be nice & at night, so intially no one knew who he was. My kids still hang out their stockings on Dec. 5th & collect their treats the next morning!

Actually, there truly was a Santa Claus. Saint Nicholas was a Turkish saint who gave to the poor, especially children. Santa Claus is a Dutch (?) corruption of "Saint Nicholas." I think it's sweet to still give presents in his name. We may have made up the idea that he lives at the North Pole, and Thomas Nast may have given us the image of him as we think of him now, but I think his spirit still lives on.

He wasn't just invented....he was a real person. St. Nicholas but through the years people have made him into a fictional character to have fun with there children...it creates imagination at a young age....

I think somewhere along the years the guy actually existed, I think in a European village. His name was probably Kris Kringle and through his charity and kindness, a legend was born. I'm sure you can research it and find out for sure. And if you've ever seen a child's face light up with the idea of a magical man bringing them presents at Xmas, you'll understand why parents maintain the belief for as long as they can.

He wasn't invented. There actually was a St. Nick. They just added a lot of fiction into the character and for small kids it is fun.

Because of if he didn't exist they would have had to create one anyway! This world needs all the hope it can find,no matter how whimsical it may be! I hope others will continue Kris Kringle's tradition every winter and give children a brighter time for once in their sad lives!

To make all the little Jewish kids sad? I think they did it for the same reasons they have the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. To give kids hope and excitement around holidays, although it takes away from the true meaning of things... except for the Tooth Fairy thing ;-)
