What is your opinion on all these racial comments that are supposedly offensive. For example Michael Richards towards African Americans or Rosie O'Donnell towards the Chinese community.
My opinion is;
I think these people need to grow a pair of balls. Not just African Americans or the Chinese but all races of people. First of all these words are exactly that, words. I know words can be hurtful at times but I mean come on, Rosie saying "ching chong", what is that? Did that actually hurt people?
I know I may be burying myself an early grave with this one but the whole Michael Richards thing; I'll admit that is a bit worse than Rosie's ordeal but still. Why is it ok for only african american's to say the "n" word? African americans are always talking about racism, don't you think thats the definition of racism right there. Making a word that only acceptable to say for one race. Another thing; I understand that it dates back to slavery but is there anyone now that has been alive for it

I would just like to hear your opinions. I understand this may get to be a heated subject but it's something that im interested in hearing about.

If possible I would like to get a varity of races to answer and see what their opinion is on this matter.

Whatever it may sound like I am not a racist. I would be nice and accept anyone who did the same to me.

Well, Christian, it takes a brave man to speak his mind, especially here. I don't use the word n*gger or any type of racist words, but what you say has some merit. Lenny Bruce, a comedian/philosopher in the late 1950's said that if eveyone went around chanting those hurtful words they'd soon lose their sting because they're just words. More or less the same argument.
The only thing about that view is that people use them with venom. Your mom may have said, "It's not what you say, it's how you say it" to you (mine sure did, but I was pretty sarcastic). And that's the crux of the matter. People use those words to be cruel. Hurting others is the point. Rosie O'Donnel's bit was thoughtless but not meaningfully cruel. Michael Richards had just been heckled and reacted out of rage. Mel Gibson was drunk. Should they be lambasted for what they said. Probably not. The one thing everyone forgets is that these aren't ambassadors to the UN or foreign policy advisors. They're just actors, with maybe too much money and not enough common sense. Who cares what they say?
The only good thing that came out of the Michael Richards debacle is that African-American leaders are finally saying that the N word isn't appropriate for anyone to say.

I am Asian-American and I have assimiliated pretty well into the American society. There will always be people out there who are ignorant and will use racial slurs to try and upset or cause a scene. I try to brush it off because they don't know me or my culture. I believe that the source of the comments make a big difference in determining if what they are saying is truly racist of ignorance.

I went to a BIg 10 university with people from all sorts of background. My first racial experience was with my suitemate who told me to go home to my country. I was very offended but she had been drinking and she was jealous I was getting into an acedemic program that she couldn't. If I would have known there was a 0 tolerence policy on campus I would have reported her and had her expelled. The truth of the matter is WORDS do hurt but you need to consider the circumstances involved and determine if it is RACISM or not. Education is the best way to eradicate racism. I was just shocked that it happened to me in college.

ya know, i don't know what the Richards guy said and i don't care to know but i think everyone has a right to their opinion and this is supposed to be AMERICA where we have the FREEDOM OF SPEECH. i actually find it amusing when different race down each other because in reality it is only done because they don't really know the other person at all. people often form their opinion from things they have heard and seen and sometimes even experienced but that still does not mean everyone is that way. we all should accept other people for who they are and also accept their culture. the only difference there really is between black, white, and other races is the fact that blacks won't ever be able to forget the fact that their ancestors were wronged. and whites won't ever stop paying for their ancestors stupid mistakes. instead of dwelling on the past we should try to say positive things to people just to make the world a better place.

When it comes to words, I just consider the source. Most celebs are morons... especially Rosie. As far as racial comments, I'm with Carlos Mencia.... let 'em all have it if they deserve it (and they usually do).

he's somewhat maximum impressive in this one. Blacks contained in the US by and massive are a composite of race. i believe that purely right estimates positioned maximum Blacks contained in the 14-17% white type, yet another more effective % right into a hispanic and Asian type. they're, like maximum persons, mongrels. They choose to align themselves with Black racist wondering even with the reality that yet in reality all of them "gots a whiteman in da woodpile".
