During WWII, America produced 300,000 aircraft, 87,000 tanks, and 72,000 naval warships. From a population of 132 million, it trained, clothed, armed, and fed a military consisting of 18 million troops. And, all this occurred only 50 years into the industrial revolution.
If America applied the same dedication today to the war on terror, just how long do you think it would take to win? Just how are we expecting to succeed when active duty troop levels are only 500,000? Is the war on terror a serious commitment or just a circus sideshow?

You make a very good point. In the Iraqi war we do have some problems we did not have back in WW2:

1. A motivated Left wing that both disdains America and wishes for it's defeat

2. College indoctrination of students toward internationalism and multiculturalism; On the face of this, this would not seem a bad thing, but coupled with teaching that the American way is somehow inferior to socialism or communism, or that it is certain country's "culture" to want harsh dictatorships, this is harmful.

3. A media that parrot's the Left with constant, "America has lost the war" 24/7.
Hitler had Goebbles, the Left has its own version.

4. People today are part of the TV generation; they believe that any conflict should last only as long as one season of "friends".

5. Unlike "the Greatest generation" we have let our people become soft under the same system that our ancestors fought so hard to provide for us. Just as the Great Depression hardened the people who fought WW2, prosperity and ease of life have softened our bodies and our minds.

This may seem insurmountable, however it isn't. All these things can be overcome in time with the right leadership and mental attitude. America can win ANYTHING it sets out to do. We simply must understand that we are fighting the enemy on 2 fronts: Islamofascism on one side, the Left/media on the other.

An actual war and all it in compasses would not work IN Iraq .How long did Russian troops battle in Afghanistan ? Long time right . They never succeeded because these people are fighting a holy war .It is not about oil water trees supplies food freedoms or anything tangible .
We are fighting a war against a people to free them from what ? Oppression !
They are so oppressed by the God they worship and the rules of 1400 years ago that no progress has been made to free the peoples minds .
The protestant religions that all sprang up in Christianity all did so under a crusade type mentality .
They took pagans who had no real gods and gave the Christianity a group of people who had been in charge for over 1500 years .When you have hundreds and hundreds of years of oppression by the group in power it wears you down . AS some of the kings did not like the till death do you part ,some queens died to make way for the kings new wife . Better that we nolonger tell people that going to hell is what happens when you divorce and select a new wife .
We are not happy about divorce but you no longer go to hell for it .THIS changed Christian teaching that had been around for a thousand years .
It divided people who lived under one form of religion .That run by God and King .THE Kings of different groups of Europeans was Christian and only one kind of Christianity ruled . The Romans spread Catholicism and this was the dominant religion for 1000 years .You lived in a village with only one kind of church to attend One marriage ceremony for all in the land recognized by the king and tax collectors .
Imagine the abuse of some people who did not conform to the teachings who where persecuted for there differing believes .Instead of a dozen chickens and a pig a person who did not practice Catholicism might have to over up additional goods to the KING so by force religion was maintained as an economic and survival necessity for everyone . Guns made a huge difference and freedom to believe in other forms of religion .
Until recently almost all people have and still to this day suffered from persecution for there beliefs .

ALL the guns tanks and planes in the world will not turn these people into peace loving God fearing workers for the man . Which is what our whole society is geared to . In the work place if someone finds out you practice witchcraft as your belief then I would say that your chances of ever being promoted are nil .However if by some miracle your company owner happens to have been approved and licensed by the state to operate a business You may just stand a chance of getting to the top if he also beliefs the same things as you do . Health laws ,Insurance regulations ,and a number of government laws make it difficult for none Christians to compete in America . Just ask those business owners who have been shut down fined and hassled by the government . Code enforcement is governmental harassment of those who do not fit in to our sense of morality and Christianity . Jews have over come much of the practices of local governments and established a strong lobby in Washington They also Concentrated on doing business with one another at prices lower then would be charged to Christians . This helped Jewish owners to succeed in a predominantly Christian society .
What we can build or do in a short time has nothing to do with can we change the minds of these people in order to create peace in the region .

First you have to convince all the bleeding heart liberals to vote for more men and equipment .
In the past they've cut force levels , budgets and equipment procurement .
We need to go back to pre 1994 force levels in every branch .

Honey, when we get serious, we kick butt.

You focus on troop levels, which is only one consideration, of many, as you are well aware.

When you have a nation of 3 second sound-byters, they think the war should be won while they're microwaving their pot-pies.

"If America applied the same dedication today to the war on terror, just how long do you think it would take to win?"

Armaments and soldiers will have little or no effect on terrorism.
