Seriously. One day I don't know anything about him, the next I see he has two books, a whole bunch of people behind him, and "presidential" inspirations? Are you kidding me? What do you think about this guy? And what's going on? How did it all come so quickly?

I haven't been keeping up with politics...

He is currently the Democratic senator from IL. People have been pushing him towards the race as he tends to resonate well with both Republicans and Democrats, and is seen as a unifying force. His newest book was the most popular - the other was written some time ago. He is very charismatic. I am originally from IL, and my family and friends there (even those with a Republican bent) seem to think he's very intelligent, honest, and would be a good president. I am not sure if he is politically ripe enough, but I personally enjoy the fact that he's pretty scandal free - the worst thing people seem to find on him is that his middle name is Hussein (not after Saddam.)

He gave a speech at the DNC in 2004. His speech was so inspiring and good that he became a rock star in a minute. He had written his first book before he was famous and now his second " the Audicity of hope" came out in 2006. He is now a Junior Senator from Illinois and hasn't really done much. In my opinion he is all hype and politically empty. He will be forgotten soon and if he ever runs he will crack down under media scrutiny. I think he could be a good senator but president any time soon it's ridiculous and won't happen.

Obama won the Illinois Senator race with something like 80% of the vote, and he's a Democrat, so the political media is kissing his ***. The problem is, Senators have historically made bad Presidents, and this guy is just getting started.

I think he is a good guy with a lot of promise, but is moving too quickly. I think a person needs to gain more experience before running for president. Obama has only been senator for like 5 minutes and is already planning to run for the presidency. That seems too fast. In a few years, when he has more experience and more of a record, I think he will be a good candidate.

Obama is the media's darling because of the fact that he gave a "great speech" at the 2004 Dem. Convention (while he was a candidate for the U.S. Senate).

I don't think much of him and I will tell you why.
First he "rambles on" on how he just wants to represent his constituency in the Senate.
Second a few months later ( and who knows by which $$$'s divine revelation), he starts talking about Presidency.
A man with just state Rep experience and now a new Senator, hardly seems to me that he can be a President that wont' succumb to all the "lobbies" of Washington and lead us to a "total mess" to say the least.
There's just got to be a better choice...somewhere out there....?

i agree with "andrew". Obama seems to be articulate and well spoken, but it is way too soon for him to be talking about a presidential run. he needs to get several years of experience under his belt, and prove his true mettle. we know very little about how he will perform in office over the long run. even though i have nothing against him other than his lack of experience, at this point i would not vote for him. i just hope the democrats don't run him in 2008.
