is this dangerous? my car company recommands gear oil 75w-90, but i used this time 85w-90.
now my gear stucks.

well the main difference is that 75w90 is a synthetic GL-5 gear oil. 80w90 or in your case 85w90 which I am not too familiar with is not synthetic and could be a GL-4 or GL-5 depends on which kind you used. I know for sure that all Pennzoil gear lubes have the limited slip additive package already in it. Not too sure about the other brands. I wouldnt think that this would be dangerous and should not cause any immediate problems. The problem would be something that would take a while to develop. Differentials are made with different metal in them. Some need the additives and some need synthetic. If you put a normal GL-4 oil and you should use a GL-5 synthetic you probably will do damage to the gears over time. I would just get it changed out and not worry about it any more.

Unless you live where the temperature drops below freezing it should not have caused a problem.
Go back to the recommendation of 75w-90

Some auto manufactures require a additive to some of there rear ends depending on the make and model. and if it has limited slip or not..but as far 75w and 80w theres not no difernce 80 will run cooler with nomal everyday driving..

The oil waz too thick for ur car.if u are using a4.0cc above cars it ok.better use back 75w-90w

if you are in colder climate it will matter and that is gear oil to be used only in differentials not in transmission ever for any reason
